About the Role

Northwest Accounting and Financial Management is looking for an organized, tech-savvy Bookkeeper/Accountant who enjoys helping clients succeed. We embrace cloud-based, paperless accounting and are seeking someone passionate about bookkeeping, accounting, and nonprofit organizations. This position begins part-time with the opportunity to grow into a full-time career.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping for multiple clients, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll.
• Complete bank and account reconciliations.
• Perform month-end close and journal entries.
• Prepare and file Form 990, 1099/1096, W-2s, and applicable state and local tax filings.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements.
• Maintain organized digital records using Dropbox, Google Workspace, and similar tools.
• Support and mentor junior staff as the firm grows.
• Help clients transition to efficient cloud-based accounting systems.

Qualifications

• Required: GAAP knowledge
• Required: QuickBooks Online experience
• Bookkeeping or Accounting degree/certification preferred
• Nonprofit accounting experience (fund accounting, grants, Form 990) is a strong plus
• Experience with cloud-based accounting tools (QBO, Xero, Dropbox, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365)
• Knowledge of tax filing requirements
• Excellent organization, communication, and deadline management
• Willingness to learn and grow with our team

Work Schedule

Year 1: 5–10 hours per week (Monday–Friday)

Year 2: Opportunity to grow to 20–40 hours per week.

Work Location

Remote position. Preference given to applicants in King, Kitsap, and surrounding Washington counties for occasional in-person collaboration, but qualified remote applicants outside Washington are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits

• Bookkeeper: $26–$34/hour
• Accountant: $35–$40/hour (up to $45/hour for CPA)
• Pay based on experience and location
• Health insurance and retirement benefits available upon reaching 60% FTE
