Restaurant Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Restaurant Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial accuracy of the restaurant group's accounting records while supporting multiple restaurant locations. This role performs daily accounting functions, reconciles accounts, prepares financial reports, assists with month-end close, and ensures compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, multi-unit restaurant environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage daily accounting operations, including recording and reconciling restaurant sales, preparing journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, processing bank deposits, and resolving discrepancies.
• Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable by processing vendor invoices and payments, maintaining vendor accounts, invoicing catering and corporate clients, monitoring outstanding balances, and applying customer payments.
• Complete bank, merchant, payroll, and balance sheet reconciliations while supporting payroll audits, timekeeping verification, and payroll-related inquiries.
• Assist with inventory management by reconciling monthly inventories, analyzing food, beverage, and labor costs, monitoring inventory variances, and supporting menu costing and waste reduction initiatives.
• Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports, assist with month-end and year-end close, generate P&L reports, and support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, internal controls, audits, tax requirements, and maintain accurate financial documentation and organized accounting records.
• Collaborate with restaurant management and corporate leadership by responding to financial inquiries and supporting additional accounting and operational projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (Associate degree with relevant experience considered).
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the restaurant or hospitality industry.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and restaurant operations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, accounting software (QuickBooks, Restaurant365, Sage, NetSuite, or similar), restaurant POS systems (Toast preferred), payroll systems, and banking platforms.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
• Frequent computer and keyboard use.
• Ability to travel occasionally between restaurant locations and the corporate office.
