Role Purpose
The Senior Manager of Taxation will oversee multiple domestic and international tax functions. This role includes the full range of the organisation’s tax responsibilities, including calculation of tax liabilities, preparation of tax forms, and external filing/reporting.
The Senior Manager will also be responsible for tax research, analysis, and interpretation to ensure compliance, optimize tax planning, and facilitate effective tax structuring for mergers, acquisitions, and other business activities.
Additionally, the role requires maintaining accurate tax-specific transaction records and consulting with external stakeholders such as auditors, lawyers, and regulatory agencies. The Senior Manager will supervise professional-level employees and may oversee some para-professional staff, ensuring that team goals are met, and policies are adhered to.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance and Reporting
- Oversee and manage the whole tax compliance process (Corporate Tax, VAT, other applicable taxes and filings), including preparation of the calculation of tax liabilities and the preparation of tax returns / forms.
- Manage the external filing and reporting of tax information.
- Manage tax provisioning process and work closely with internal stakeholders and auditors to efficiently close the external audit and review process.
- Develop and implement internal tax controls and procedures to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
- Ensure that the tax documentation is prepared and filed in a timely manner.
- Manage and coordinate tax audits, prepare responses to the tax authorities
- Tax Planning and Research
- Identify risks and propose mitigation plans by implementing any tax strategies and policies.
- Conduct tax research, analysis, and interpretation for compliance and optimization, including developing tax policies for reducing the tax burden of the organisation / identification of tax-savings.
- Assess the impact of changes in laws and regulations on tax liabilities.
- Structure tax strategies for mergers and acquisitions, and other business activities.
- Oversee transfer pricing strategies and documentation.
- Identify and develop best practices for the organizations tax positions.
- Record Keeping and Documentation
- Manage the organizations tax documentation to ensure it is accurate and up-to-date.
- Ensure accurate recording of tax-specific transactions.
- Maintain tax journals and detailed records of capital expenditures.
- Prepare and manage tax schedules and any other necessary documentation.
- Consultation and Advisory
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide tax advice and guidance on business transactions and any other clarification.
- Collaborate with and manage the relationships with external consultants and agencies on tax matters.
- Liaise with external auditors, lawyers, and regulatory agencies to address tax issues.
- Team Leadership and Supervision
- Set goals and objectives for the tax team to achieve operational results, including KPIs for the tax department
- Supervise professional-level employees (typically entry or experienced level).
- May oversee some para-professional employees.
- Ensure team members understand and follow established policies, practices, and procedures.
- Continuous professional development of all team members.
- Problem Solving and Decision Making
- Address difficult but typically non-complex tax problems.
- Provide solutions and guidance to team members on tax-related issues.
- Create value for the company from tax perspective.
- Continuously improve all tax processes and provide recommendations
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree or
- Professional certification CPA, CMA… are required
- Experience:
- Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in tax management (including 3-4 years with Big4 preferable), with a focus on both domestic and international tax issues.
- Knowledge:
- Tax Laws and Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of domestic and international tax laws and compliance.
- Understanding of Pillar Two developments.
- Accounting Principles: Knowledge of GAAP or IFRS and financial statement analysis.
- Tax Software and Tools: Proficiency in tax preparation and research software, and ERP systems.
- Tax Planning and Strategy: Expertise in tax planning, optimization, and structuring for mergers, acquisitions, and transfer pricing.
- Record Keeping and Documentation: Skills in maintaining accurate tax-specific transaction records and documentation.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Familiarity with compliance requirements and tax risk management best practices.
- Financial Analysis: Ability to conduct detailed tax research and analysis.
- Industry Knowledge: Awareness of industry-specific tax issues and trends.
- External Consultation: Experience collaborating with external auditors, lawyers, and regulatory agencies.
