The Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional, vigilant, and proactive School Lifeguard to support the safe operation of the swimming pool and aquatic facilities at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Dubai Sports City.

This role works collaboratively with PE teachers, swimming instructors, operations staff, external providers, and the wider school community to ensure the highest standards of water safety, supervision, and facility management.

As a start-up school, the successful candidate will play an important role in establishing safe operating procedures, preparing the aquatic facilities for opening, and embedding a strong culture of health, safety, and wellbeing from the outset.

The Role

• Job Title: School Lifeguard
• Reporting to: Director of Operations / Director of Sport
• Pool Safety, Operations and School Readiness
• Provide continuous supervision of all swimming pool activities, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, visitors, and external users at all times.

Support the preparation and operational readiness of the school's aquatic facilities prior to opening, ensuring all safety equipment, signage, rescue equipment, and emergency procedures are fully implemented.

Conduct routine safety inspections of the swimming pool, surrounding areas, changing facilities, and equipment, reporting any hazards or maintenance issues promptly.

Ensure pool rules and safe operating procedures are consistently enforced to promote a safe and positive environment.

Carry out water quality testing in accordance with local regulations and school procedures, maintaining accurate records and escalating any concerns immediately.

Assist with the setup and preparation of the swimming pool for curriculum lessons, swimming programmes, competitions, and school events.

Ensure rescue equipment, first aid supplies, and emergency communication systems remain fully operational and readily accessible.

Support the ongoing development and implementation of pool operating procedures, risk assessments, and emergency action plans appropriate for a new school environment.

Student Support and CommunicationSupport PE teachers and swimming instructors by maintaining a safe environment that enables high-quality swimming lessons and aquatic activities.

Build positive relationships with students by promoting confidence, respect, and safe behaviour in and around the swimming pool.

Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, students, parents, and visitors regarding pool safety procedures and facility expectations.

Provide guidance and reassurance to students who may require additional confidence or support within the aquatic environment.

Promote a culture of personal responsibility and water safety awareness throughout the school community.

Liaise effectively with external swimming providers and facility users to ensure compliance with school policies and safety procedures.

Monitoring, Evaluation and ReportingMaintain accurate records of pool operations, water testing, maintenance checks, incidents, accidents, and emergency drills.

Monitor compliance with health and safety procedures, identifying potential risks and recommending improvements where appropriate.

Report accidents, incidents, near misses, and safeguarding concerns promptly and in accordance with school procedures.

Support regular reviews of emergency procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of pool operations.

Assist in maintaining accurate inventories of rescue equipment, first aid supplies, pool chemicals, and operational resources.

Contribute to operational reports and compliance documentation required for inspections or internal reviews.

Health, Safety, Safeguarding and WellbeingUphold the highest standards of health and safety, ensuring all aquatic activities comply with school policies, UAE regulations, and international best practice.

Respond confidently and effectively to emergencies, administering first aid and water rescue procedures where required.

Maintain valid lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and emergency response certifications at all times.

Promote student wellbeing by creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where all students feel confident participating in aquatic activities.

Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring all responsibilities are carried out in accordance with school policies, local requirements, and international best practice.

Model professionalism, vigilance, and calm decision-making, serving as a positive role model for students and colleagues.

The PersonQualifications and ExperienceNationally or internationally recognised Lifeguard Qualification (RLSS, Ellis & Associates, or equivalent).

Valid First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.A minimum of 2 years' experience as a lifeguard, preferably within a school, leisure, or sports facility.

Experience supporting swimming lessons, school swimming programmes, or aquatic events is highly desirable.

Experience working within a British or international school environment is desirable.

Strong understanding of pool plant operations, water quality testing, and health and safety procedures is advantageous.

Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection within an educational setting.
