About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Trade Finance Analyst II to join a specialized Standbys & Guarantees team supporting large corporate clients across North America. This is a middle-office role that combines technical trade finance expertise, client interaction, transaction execution, risk assessment, and AML analysis.

The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs) and Bank Guarantees, working closely with clients, internal partners, and external financial institutions to facilitate complex transactions while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

Trade Finance Operations

• Draft, issue, advise, and amend Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs) and Bank Guarantees.
• Review and negotiate guarantee and standby letter of credit wording.
• Process client requests, amendments, and ongoing maintenance activities.
• Analyze transaction requests and identify potential risks.
• Ensure all required approvals and documentation are completed before issuance.
• Manage transaction workflows from initiation through execution.

Client & Stakeholder Support

• Serve as a key point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance on trade finance products and transactions.
• Maintain strong relationships with business partners and external financial institutions.
• Communicate complex trade finance concepts clearly and professionally.

Risk, AML & Compliance

• Perform AML reviews and due diligence on transactions.
• Identify and escalate potential compliance, operational, and credit risks.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Apply trade finance controls and risk management practices to all transactions.

Operational Excellence

• Deliver service within established SLAs.
• Participate in reporting, reconciliations, and operational reviews.
• Support process improvements and identify operational efficiencies.
• Ensure high levels of accuracy, consistency, and quality across all work.

Required Qualifications

Must-Have Experience

• Minimum 3 years of Trade Finance experience (2 years minimum considered).
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Standby Letters of Credit (SBLCs)
• Bank Guarantees
• Trade Finance Operations
• Knowledge of AML requirements and transaction due diligence.
• Experience working within a banking or financial services environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Trade Finance Knowledge

• Understanding of Trade Finance products and processes.
• Knowledge of ICC rules and standards.
• Familiarity with:
• UCP
• ISBP
• Standby Letters of Credit
• Guarantees
• Ability to assess transaction documentation and identify risks.

Preferred Qualifications

• CDCS (Certified Documentary Credit Specialist) designation.
• Experience with TF360.
• Previous experience negotiating trade finance instruments with financial institutions.
• Bilingual French and English (preferred, particularly for Montreal-based candidates).
• Additional language skills are considered an asset.

Progressive Learning

• Begin with maintenance activities and amendments.
• Gradually transition to more complex transactions.
• Expected to operate independently within approximately six months.

Work Arrangement

• Training period: Full-time in office (minimum one month, potentially up to three months).
• Post-training: Hybrid schedule.
• 3 days in office
• 2 days remote
