Nonprofit Senior Accountant

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Nonprofit Senior Accountant on behalf of a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to community resources through innovative financing and strategic partnerships. This is a hybrid opportunity based in New York City (SoHo), with a preference for working onsite two days per week.

This is a temporary assignment expected to last at least two months , with the potential to extend to four to five months .

POSITION OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to provide critical accounting support during a busy period for the finance team. This role will partner closely with the Vice President of Accounting & Finance to manage day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close activities, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-directed, and comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative nonprofit environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage day-to-day general accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance Support month-end and year-end close processes while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting Process accounting transactions independently using QuickBooks and maintain accurate financial records Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, analyze variances, and resolve accounting discrepancies Assist with nonprofit financial reporting, compliance, and other finance projects as assigned Partner with the finance team to improve processes while maintaining strong internal controls and financial accuracy

QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional accounting experience with the ability to independently manage full-cycle accounting responsibilities Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks and strong Microsoft Excel skills Experience supporting nonprofit organizations and/or lending or financial services environments preferred Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
