Job ProfileReporting to the Manager of Arenas, the Supervisor of Arena Operations is responsible for the leadership and day-to-day operation of Arena properties and facilities within a defined geographic area in the City.

This role supervises and schedules Arena work crews and arranges for proper training of staff in the maintenance of Arenas and Facilities in a designated district of the City.

The Supervisor oversees arena facilities with banquet halls and meeting rooms, determines the work to be done, assigns maintenance work, makes purchases and arranges for repairs.

In addition, the role coordinates support for user groups of ice-time, and rooms based on scheduled bookings by various user groups.

What you will be doing

Provides leadership to staff.

Responds to area work/schedule concerns after normal business hours as required.

Provides input to the capital and operating budget process and monitors expenditures and revenues within the area of responsibility.

Responsible for staff training, development, recruitment and discipline for all unionized full time, part time and seasonal employees within area of responsibility.

Ensures compliance with technical regulations and legislations ie: Technical Standards Safety Association, Board of Health Regulations, Electrical Safety Authority, Building Code, Canadian Standards Association, Accessibility Standards, Ministry Of Environment requirements, etc…Responsible for Emergency Management and evacuation procedures through the coordination and assignment of Arena staff.

Assures compliance and documentation as applicable to regulations and standard operating procedures. Takes leading role in development, training and implementation of new and existing Standard Operating Procedures and responsible for quality control. Identifies training needs for staff.

Responsible to operate facilities as emergency evacuation centers in support of local schools and neighbourhoods.

Works with other Recreation and Operations staff in facilitating programs, special events, and services.

Maintains and is available to the Facilities and Arenas after hours, through the year round 24 hour on-call system (standby).

Inspects work sites and buildings for cost, quality, maintenance and safety needsMonitors the condition of spaces and facilities to determine the work to be performed.

Manages and assesses risk in all large events, public gatherings, and festivalsResponds and reacts and directly replies to public inquiries and complaints.

Ensures employees and contractors work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, and Corporate Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, and to take every reasonable precaution to protect the workers.

Selects and manages various contractors in operational maintenance and care of all properties, facilities and buildingsActs as a Manager of Arenas in a backup capacity.

Employee Relations - Provides day-to-day direction, supervision, scheduling, training and leadership in a 7 day- 5am-1am operation. Holds regular meetings with operational staff. Attends staff grievance and disciplinary meetings. Possess a comprehensive understanding of the collective bargaining agreement and a working knowledge of the collective bargaining process.

Works together with Manager to organize staff workshops. Analyzes and reviews staff skills and development.

Programming
Keeps arena weekly program schedules updated, and ensures staff coverage for programs.
Keeps in contact with user groups, supervises sporting and special events, responsible for and confirms cash receipts, maintains revenue records to manage financial revenues and budgets
Planning and Projects
Provides planning information as needed on a daily basis on projects to make sure work is being completed properly and on schedule.
Investigates and provides information as required.
Initiates, oversees and project manages special work and development projects.

Education
Two year Diploma in Recreation Facility Management, Recreation Leadership, Business & or Leadership Development or equivalent
Certified Ice Technician (or equivalency)
Refrigeration “B” certificate, Certified Refrigeration Plant Technician (CARPT), or equivalent refrigeration experience is considered an asset.

Experience and KnowledgeThree (3) to five (5) years’ experience in maintenance and management of Buildings, Facilities, Arenas, Special Events, Emergency and Risk Management.

Experience working in a unionized environmentWe will ask you for these items if you are hiredProof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.

Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour (may be obtained post offer)Valid G driver's license.

Your compensationThe annual salary range for this non-union position is $97,048 - $118,348 (Band Level 5). We offer a comprehensive benefits package and are an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.

Hours of workMonday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm p.m. (35 hours per week), some evening work is required. On-call evenings, weekends, and holidays on a shared schedule with others within the Department.
