"Product Owner (Founder Track) — Startup Rebuilding the AI Notetaker Around Rules of Privilege"AI meetings that know what not to record. The technology is built. The patents are filed. It needs its product owner.
Location: Mountain View, California (In Person — Sand Hill Road)Experience: Open to all levels — from exceptional new graduates to experienced founders and operators. We hire for entrepreneurial slope, not years.
Background: What we're building An AI notetaker for the enterprise that captures every meeting like the tools you already know, then records only what you've agreed to. A policy you write in plain words decides, in real time as people speak, what gets transcribed and what gets sealed. Privileged conversations, deal terms, customer data, and off-hand admissions never reach the record.
It can pull in counsel the moment a matter turns legal, surface context from past meetings, and keep a full audit trail of every decision, all running inside your own environment across Zoom, Meet, Teams, phone, and email.
How it's different Every notetaker today (Otter, Granola, Fireflies, Copilot) makes the same bet: record the whole conversation, then produce a transcript. They only compete on where the audio goes. None of them decide what should be written down in the first place. We do. We're the only one that governs capture in the moment: privilege-aware, running in your own tenant, with every decision logged.
Why it matters For law firms, finance, healthcare, and government, anyone who handles privilege, deals, or regulated data, an ungoverned transcript is a liability. Every word is discoverable, leakable, and a compliance risk, and one stray line can sink a case. These teams want AI notetaking, but they cannot accept indiscriminate capture.
That is a large, urgent, underserved market, and we have a patent-pending wedge into it.
Who we're looking for You have lived this problem. You have worked on transcription or speech systems at a company like Google, Otter, or Granola, or you have built a comparable voice-transcription product yourself, and you are genuinely passionate about voice, meetings, and getting transcription right. You want to own a product end to end, not be one engineer of fifty.
For law firms, finance, healthcare, and government — anyone who handles privilege, deals, or regulated data — that indiscriminate capture is a liability. Every word is discoverable, leakable, and a compliance risk. A CFO's off-hand comment about a pending deal, sitting in a searchable transcript, can move a stock or sink a case. These organizations want AI notetaking. They cannot accept ungoverned capture.
We are building the answer: an AI meeting platform where a policy written in plain words decides, in real time as people speak, what gets transcribed and what gets sealed. Privileged conversations, deal terms, customer data, and off-hand admissions never reach the record.
The system can pull counsel into a call the moment a matter turns legal, surface a prior admission or governing regulation at the moment it matters, and keep a full audit trail of every decision — all running inside the customer's own environment across Zoom, Meet, Teams, phone, and email.
This approach is patent-pending, with a family of filed U.S. utility applications covering context-aware selective recordation, privilege-preserving AI communications, and enterprise-resident intelligent agents.
The team is already buildingThis is founding a company without the blank page: real founder title and equity, a base salary from day one, engineers already building, and patents already filed — instead of a solo grind with no paycheck and no team.
Our founding ML engineer was early hire #10 at Otter.ai, where he spent eight years building the company's core AI from 0 to 1 — speaker diarization and recognition, streaming pipelines, and the LLM fine-tuning and evaluation frameworks that took AI transcription from demo to daily habit for millions. He holds multiple issued U.S. patents in real-time transcription, and he leads our engineering team today.
The technology has its builder. What the company needs is its product owner — the person who owns what gets built, who it's for, and how it gets sold.
What you'll ownThe fundraise — your main job. Your number one deliverable is closing our first external raise within 3–6 months. Until then, the company runs on up to $250K in incubator funding from the studio. You'll build the deck and the data room, then get in front of investors relentlessly — your own network first, plus warm intros, coffee meetings, demo days, and Sand Hill Road walk-ins.
If you've raised before, that experience and those relationships are exactly what we're hiring. If you haven't, plan to spend most of your first months building investor relationships from scratch.
The product. Roadmap, priorities, and the definition of done — you decide what ships and why, working directly with an engineering team led by an eight-year Otter.ai veteran. You'll also help incorporate the spinout and give the company its name.
Customers. Your next job is discovery: sit with general counsels, CFOs, compliance officers, and IT leaders in legal, finance, and healthcare; learn why redact-after-capture fails them; and turn that into the first design partners, paid pilots, and first revenue.
The governance rules. Translating privilege, discoverability, and compliance requirements into the plain-language policies the product enforces live — the rules that seal, redact, or route sensitive moments before they're ever saved.
The story. Positioning, pricing, pitch — the narrative that makes the raise and the first sales.
The operating company. Hiring plan, budget, board materials, and the weekly operating rhythm with the engineering team.
Who should applyWe're hiring for entrepreneurial slope, not résumé length — and slope shows up at every career stage. This is for someone who wants to found a company — but is smart enough to want a team, capital, and infrastructure behind them rather than doing it all alone. You may be:
An experienced founder or operator — you've built, sold, or scaled something before, and you want your next company to start with technology, patents, and engineers already in place instead of another two years of zero.A sales, BD, or GTM leader in legal tech, fintech, or enterprise SaaS who has watched founders make worse decisions than you would — and is ready to hold the title.A product manager who has taken a product from zero to first revenue and wants to own the whole company, not a roadmap slice.
An early-career entrepreneur who's been itching to start a company but couldn't justify quitting to zero salary and a blank page — this is the founder seat with a paycheck and a built team.A founder whose last startup didn't work — often because you were alone — and who learned more from that than any job.A recent business, finance, or economics graduate who ran a real venture in school — a company with revenue, a fund, an organization you scaled — and wants to found, not consult.
Why incubated beats solo: you skip the years most founders spend finding a technical cofounder, filing IP, and scraping together a pre-seed. Here, the diligence-ready assets exist on day one. Your equity is smaller than a solo founder's on paper — and worth far more in expectation, because the company actually gets built.A note on the name: the company doesn't have one yet — deliberately.
The name should be approachable and easy to remember, and naming it is one of the first things you'll own.
You should be:
Relentless in person — able to cold-email a general counsel, get the meeting, and hold the room.A strong writer and clear thinker — your memos, decks, and emails will be the company's voice.
Genuinely fascinated by why enterprises fear their own transcripts — privilege, discoverability, insider information, compliance. You don't need a law or finance license; you need to get it fast.AI-first in how you work — you already use frontier AI tools daily to produce more than a team of five did a decade ago.
Full of founder energy — you move fast, own outcomes, and want to be employee #1 on the business side of something that matters.
Committed to full-time, in-person work in Mountain View / Sand Hill Road. This cannot be built remotely.
Bonus points:
You've been a founder or early employee before — including ventures that didn't work.A JD, CPA, or compliance background, or experience selling enterprise software into legal or financial services. You've taken a product from zero to first revenue.
Founding stock in an early-stage AI company. You are employee #1 on the business side, joining before our next raise, with real ownership and outsized upside.
Base salary of $80,000, negotiable for the right candidate, with room to grow as the company scales.
The base is startup cash, not market cash — deliberately — because the upside is founder-level equity in a company you help run from day one.A CEO track: perform, and this seat becomes the chief executive role of the spinout.A genuine chance to define a category — the AI notetaker rebuilt around rules of privilege — backed by a venture studio with a real track record.
