Assistant Director of Accounting

• Position: Assistant Director of Accounting
• Compensation: $135,000 - $155,000 annually, depending on experience
• Location: Raleigh, North Carolina

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an accounting professional ready to step into a visible role with strong long-term growth potential. You will partner closely with accounting leadership to support corporate accounting, SEC reporting, financial reporting, and close processes for a publicly traded real estate organization.

This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact across reporting, controls, and team leadership while helping drive process improvements and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities &

Duties

• Oversee SEC filings, including 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and proxy statements
• Support internal and external financial reporting accuracy and timeliness
• Lead monthly and annual close, including consolidations and eliminations
• Manage AR and AP teams with a focus on efficiency and control
• Review equity accounting, stock grants, vestings, and rollforwards
• Perform quarterly impairment testing for key asset categories
• Strengthen internal controls and SOX compliance processes
• Serve as a key contact for internal and external audits
• Prepare technical accounting memos and research complex issues
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and special projects
• Required Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
• CPA strongly preferred5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting
• Experience with consolidations and month-end close
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Nice to Have Skills & Experience:
• Real estate industry experience
• Experience with SOX compliance
• Background in technical accounting research
• Exposure to equity accounting
• Experience supporting audits
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
