Job Purpose
The Associate Director – Corporate Banking plays a critical role in growing Mashreq’s balance sheet and profitability in Oman. The focus will be on onboarding new to bank clients in Oman in addition to leveraging on Mashreq’s global presence by developing regional relationships where applicable.
The role also requires being well versed with market norms and regulatory requirements across the region in addition to ability to build a robust and diversified pipeline.
The role requires coordination among different business units, ensuring the bank’s services meet the requirements of newly onboarded clients, while also adhering to regulatory and risk management standards.
Key Result Areas
- Client Origination: The Associate Director is responsible for driving the origination of new-to-bank corporate relationships in Mashreq’s regional presence countries. This includes identifying key growth opportunities, structuring financing solutions, and onboarding clients. The individual has to increase Mashreq’s strategic market share in the countries within his/her remint. The role involves identifying and pursuing opportunities that contribute to revenue generation and growth.
- Build and maintain relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with C-suite clients, including CEOs, CFOs, and other key decision-makers.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders: Work closely with credit risk, legal, and other internal stakeholders to ensure transactions are properly structured and executed.
- Aligning Strategies: aligning the corporate development and market penetration strategy with the Heads of Corporate in the respective countries to ensure Mashreq’s positioning in the market is consistent.
- Risk & Compliance Management: The Associate Director ensures that all transactions comply with Mashreq’s risk appetite and approved framework. They collaborate with the Credit Management & Control Unit (CMC) within Corporate Origination division to conduct due diligence and ensure the necessary approvals are obtained, providing a high level of assurance that all deals meet the bank’s standards for credit quality, policy and regulatory adherence.
- Market Insight & Strategy Development: The Associate Director has to be knowledgeable of strategic insights including market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes in each market. This insight is used to inform long-term business strategies and ensure Mashreq remains competitive in the rapidly evolving market.
- Develop and maintain market knowledge: Stay up-to-date on market trends, industry developments, and competitor activity to identify opportunities and optimize business performance.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: The role requires daily collaboration with internal teams across various functions, including Corporate Banking, Risk, Treasury, Legal, Operations, and Compliance, ensuring that client transactions are executed efficiently and in line with Mashreq’s standards. The Associate Director serves as a key liaison across departments, resolving any challenges that arise and ensuring a seamless client experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Professional Experience: The individual should have 8-10 years of experience in corporate banking most of which should be in Oman. Their background includes substantial expertise in originating corporate deals, managing cross-border transactions, and overseeing complex portfolios.
- Wholesale Banking Knowledge: The Associate Director should have experience related to wholesale banking products, including corporate financing, trade finance, cash management, FX, and derivatives. They have a strong track record of structuring and managing complex deals for strategic clients.
- Credit & Risk Management Expertise: The Associate Director has solid credit acumen and experience in assessing and mitigating risks associated with large-scale corporate transactions. They balance the bank’s profitability targets with prudent risk management practices.
- Stakeholder Management: The role requires the Associate Director to influence and coordinate across teams and departments, acting as a key point of contact for senior stakeholders. Their ability to lead cross-functional roles and manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is crucial to their success.
- Educational Qualifications: The Associate Director holds a degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field. They also possess professional certifications in corporate Banking to further complement their expertise.
- Client-Centric Approach: The Associate Director excels in building and maintaining strong relationships with different external and internal stakeholders. The client-first mentality shall contribute significantly to Mashreq’s expansion in the region.
