We are seeking a Managing Director, Relationship Manager to serve as the senior day-to-day advisor and primary point of contact for a portfolio of healthcare and life sciences clients.
This individual will own the client relationship end-to-end: shaping IR strategy, managing investor targeting and engagement, guiding messaging around key catalysts and financial events, and acting as a trusted counselor to C-suite executives and boards.
This is a senior, client-facing, revenue-relevant role suited to an experienced healthcare IR or capital markets professional ready to lead relationships independently while mentoring junior team members.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the lead strategic advisor and primary point of contact for a portfolio of public and pre-IPO healthcare/life sciences clients.
- Drive client retention and account growth by serving as a trusted strategic advisor and delivering high-touch, proactive support aligned with client goals.
- Build deep familiarity with each client’s science, pipeline, competitive landscape, business strategy, and capital markets positioning.
- Act as a trusted advisor to CEOs, CFOs, Heads of Investor Relations, and other senior executives, providing counsel on investor perception, positioning, messaging, and engagement strategy.
- Maintain strong client relationships through high-touch engagement, proactive communication, and a deep understanding of client objectives and priorities.
- Demonstrate a proven ability to retain and grow client relationships.
Investor Relations Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute comprehensive investor relations strategies and communications calendars aligned with earnings cycles, clinical data readouts, regulatory milestones, corporate developments, and other key catalysts.
- Lead investor targeting and shareholder identification/analysis efforts; identify and prioritize institutional investors, generalists, specialists, and other stakeholders aligned with each client’s investment profile.
- Coordinate and manage non-deal roadshows, investor conferences, and one-on-one and group investor meetings.
- Draft, refine, and oversee the development of key investor communications materials, including earnings scripts, press releases, investor presentations, talking points, and Q&A preparation materials.
- Monitor sell-side coverage, consensus estimates, trading activity, ownership trends, and peer/competitor developments; provide actionable insights and recommendations to clients.
Business Development & Team Leadership
- Support new business development efforts, including client pitches, proposals, presentations, and cultivating prospective client relationships.
- Lead, mentor, and manage junior IR associates, analysts, and additional team members supporting client accounts; provide guidance, review deliverables, and ensure high-quality execution aligned with client objectives.
- Build and manage effective account teams by delegating responsibilities, developing talent, and maintaining accountability for client deliverables.
- Contribute to firm thought leadership through market commentary, conference participation, published perspectives, and industry insights that reinforce the firm’s positioning in healthcare investor relations.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in investor relations, institutional equity sales, equity research, investment banking, or a related capital markets role with direct healthcare/life sciences sector experience required.
- Recognized success in retaining and growing client relationships through strategic counsel, exceptional service, and a deep understanding of client objectives.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing senior executive relationships (CEO/CFO level) and advising on investor communications and capital markets strategy.
- Proven ability to deliver high-touch client management and serve as a strategic partner to clients.
- Strong working knowledge of the biotech, pharmaceutical, and medical device investor landscape, including institutional investor targeting and buy-side relationships.
- Deep understanding of financial statements, valuation frameworks, and capital markets processes (including IPOs, follow-ons, and PIPE transactions) as they relate to investor relations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific, clinical, and financial information into clear and compelling investor-facing narratives.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing and developing team members.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CFA, or relevant scientific/medical background preferred.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel for investor meetings, conferences, and client engagements, including prioritizing client needs and availability outside of standard business hours when required.
