Job Description

This role is a field position responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining a wide range of commercial HVAC systems across the Los Angeles Basin. The HVAC Service Technician performs complex repairs, preventive maintenance, and system startups on equipment such as rooftop units, chillers, cooling towers, and VRF systems.

The technician works largely independently in the field, uses modern field service technology for documentation, and upholds high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of HVAC repairs on commercial equipment, including split condensing unit repair and replacement, leak detection, and comprehensive system maintenance.
• Service and maintain self-contained units, VRF systems, heat pumps, and control systems to ensure reliable and efficient performance.
• Work on commercial HVAC systems such as rooftop units, air handling units, hydronic systems, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and VAV boxes.
• Conduct general and preventive maintenance to maximize system longevity, efficiency, and reliability across all assigned equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including complex electrical problems involving low-voltage controls and high-voltage power.
• Perform system startups and verify proper operation of VRF systems and other commercial HVAC systems in the field.
• Use ServiceTitan software to accurately document all service work, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and recommendations, using a company-provided tablet and phone.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, dispatch, and internal team members regarding work performed, system status, and any follow-up needs.
• Drive a company van safely to job sites across the Los Angeles Basin and practice safe parking and vehicle operation at all locations.
• Work independently in the field the majority of the time while following company safety policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
• Use personal hand tools and appropriate PPE to perform all tasks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry best practices.
• Adhere to all company and regulatory safety standards, including participation in required drug screening and physical examinations.
• Represent the company professionally at client sites, demonstrating strong customer service skills and a detail-oriented approach to work and documentation.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of HVAC field experience, preferably in commercial service environments.
• Universal EPA Certification for handling refrigerants.
• Completion of HVAC trade school or relevant college coursework.
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems, including cooling towers, chillers, pumps, air handling systems, ductwork, VAV systems, and boilers.
• Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including low-voltage controls and high-voltage power.
• Hands-on experience with VRF systems, including service and startup.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical information related to HVAC systems and controls.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company standards.
• Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively as part of a team when needed.
• Fluency in spoken and written English for effective communication and documentation.
• Ability to provide and use personal hand tools and PPE appropriate for HVAC service work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using ServiceTitan or similar field service management software for work orders, dispatch, and documentation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting skills for complex HVAC systems.
• Experience in field service work, including repair, preventive maintenance, and installation of HVAC equipment.
• Nice-to-have experience with additional electrical work related to HVAC systems.
• Comfort working alone in the field for the majority of the workday while maintaining high productivity and safety standards.
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with clients at their facilities.
• Detail-oriented approach to documentation, safety practices, and equipment care.
• Reliable, safety-conscious work habits and consistent punctuality.

Work Environment

This is a full-time field role based in the Los Angeles Basin, covering territories such as the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Alhambra, San Marino, and nearby beachfront areas. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with overtime as needed. The position requires living within approximately 25 miles of Glendale, CA to support efficient dispatch and response times.

You will work in a variety of commercial settings, often on rooftops, mechanical rooms, and other building systems areas, and you will work alone in the field approximately 95% of the time. A company van is provided for work-related travel, and you are expected to drive safely and maintain safe parking practices at all job sites.

The role involves regular use of ServiceTitan software on a company-provided cell phone and tablet for dispatch, documentation, and communication. You will use your own hand tools and PPE daily, and you will operate within a safety-focused environment.

The work involves hands-on interaction with VRF systems, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, rooftop units, and other commercial HVAC equipment in a dynamic, field-based setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
