POSITION OVERVIEW

A private family in Austin, Texas is seeking a highly skilled and trustworthy Property Maintenance Manager / Handyman to oversee the day-to-day operations of three private residences in the Austin area. This is a long-term, stable, full-time role offering the opportunity to build a meaningful working relationship with a respected household.

The ideal candidate is self-directed, exceptionally reliable, and takes genuine pride in maintaining homes at the highest standard. Discretion, professionalism, and a proactive mindset are essential.

THE PROPERTIES

This role covers three Austin-area residences, with the candidate rotating between all three throughout the week.

The properties range in size from approximately 3,500 to 10,000 square feet.

The family consists of six members, including four adult children who visit the Austin residences periodically but are not based in Austin full-time. Two dogs (one large Doodle and one Miniature Doodle) reside at the properties and the candidate should be comfortable working around pets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct regular walkthroughs and inspections of all three Austin residences to identify and address maintenance needs proactively
• Perform routine and preventative home maintenance across all properties (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, landscaping coordination, etc.)
• Source, schedule, and supervise third-party vendors and contractors; obtain competitive bids and ensure quality workmanship
• Serve as the primary on-site point of contact when principals are in residence, anticipating needs and ensuring the home is guest-ready
• Coordinate with the broader household staff team, including three Executive Assistants and an overarching Property Manager who oversees the family’s national portfolio (Austin, Chicago, New York, Bahamas, and Arizona)
• Manage property-related inventories, supplies, and consumables across all Austin homes
• Respond promptly to ad hoc and emergency maintenance requests outside of regular business hours when needed
• Maintain detailed logs of completed work, ongoing projects, and upcoming maintenance schedules
• Support household moves, seasonal preparations, and special projects as directed

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in property management, or a skilled trades/handyman role — preferably within a private residential or luxury setting
• Broad working knowledge of residential systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repairs
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple properties and prioritize competing needs with composure
• Strong vendor management and contractor oversight experience
• Impeccable personal integrity — ability to pass a thorough background check and provide professional references
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable interfacing with principals, household staff, and vendors alike
• Comfortable working around dogs
• Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation (vehicle allowance provided)
• Proficiency with basic property management technology, scheduling tools, and mobile communication

SCHEDULE & EXPECTATIONS

• Standard hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Rotating schedule across the three Austin properties throughout the week
• Availability for emergency and ad hoc support outside of standard hours is expected on an as-needed basis
• No regular out-of-state travel required; all properties are within the Austin metro area
