GENERAL MANAGER, SWIMMING ACADEMY & NATIONAL YOUTH TRAINING CENTRE

The General Manager leads and manages the Swimming Academy and National Youth Training Centre, including the overall management and development of student-athletes. You will develop, implement and review action plans and initiatives that are aligned to the school’s mission, vision and priorities, including the management of resources to achieve desired outcomes.

You will provide support to the Head Coach to ensure a conducive daily training environment for student-athletes in the Academy and National Youth Training Centre.

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders such as coaches, mentors, parents, Singapore Aquatics (SAQ), and other coaches and clubs in the Swimming scene. You will manage student-athletes’ data and information, and support the coaches in areas such as talent identification, recruitment, and competition management.

You will also champion the holistic development of student-athletes and provide athlete-life mentoring.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Leadership

• Provide leadership to the Swimming Academy and National Youth Training Centre and lead the Academy in the formulation, implementation and review of work plans and initiatives; and develops action plans that are aligned to the school’s mission, vision and priorities
• Nurture a positive climate of integrity, professionalism, respect and teamwork in the Academy and National Youth Training Centre

Recruitment and Admission

• Work with SAQ, High Performance Sports Institute (HPSI) and coaches to design and implement appropriate talent identification and selection platforms and processes
• Engage potential student-athletes and their parents on the Academy’s and National Youth Training Centre’s objectives and programming, including Vision 2032

Training and Competition

• Work with coaches to identify and organise training, competitions and trials for student-athletes. Manages registration and arrangements of student-athletes for participation in local and international competitions and activities

Managing Resources and Processes

• Oversee the planning, allocation, management and accountability for the use of resources for the academy, including but not limited to providing a conducive daily training environment, planning for budget and management of procurement and sponsorship
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student-athlete’s information such as performances, achievements and participation in activities
• Support the coaches in talent identification and oversee recruitment of student-athletes
• Work with coaches, SAQ, and HPSI in implementing suitable Academy projects and programmes
• Oversee the upkeep of training venue, facilities and equipment, taking reference from the industry’s best practices
• Manage SSP-SAQ PDC vendors for facility usage outside of SSP’s and National Youth Training Centre’s training times
• Organise Academy- or school-wide activities and events when required

Effective Communication and Partnerships

• Foster strong partnerships with key stakeholders (e.g. parents, SAQ, HPSI, clubs, and Ministry of Education (MOE)) to achieve the desired outcomes
• Facilitate the collaboration with HPSI, SAQ, etc. on sports science and sports medicine integration, research projects and educating student-athlete in the process
• Champion the holistic development of the student-athlete and provide athlete life mentoring, while seeking alignment with stakeholders such as academic and boarding mentors, parents, coaches and SAQ.

Job Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in sports administration or working with youth athletes
• Passion in sports, and have interest and experience in Swimming
• Commitment to values inculcation and character development in youth athletes
• Good communication, writing and organisational skills
• Strong leadership, collaborative and networking skills in working with colleagues and building strong partnerships with key stakeholders and partners
• Degree or relevant professional qualification in Sports Management, Sports Science or Physical Education is preferred, including relevant professional experience in related sports
• A good understanding of Singapore's education system is preferred
