About Our Client
Our client is part of a sizable listed group, employing approximately 300-400 staff across Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the role will lead and oversee the full spectrum of Human Resources and Administration functions across Hong Kong and Mainland China, managing the teams across offices.
The incumbent will act as a strategic business partner to senior stakeholders across multiple business units, driving HR strategy, workforce planning, and organisational development initiatives aligned with business objectives.
This includes overseeing end-to-end HR operations such as talent management, performance management, annual compensation and review cycles, and employee engagement, while ensuring full compliance with Hong Kong and PRC labour laws and regulatory requirements.
You will be responsible for managing HR matters particularly in Mainland China, including employee relations, restructuring initiatives, and union engagement, working with business leaders to navigate sensitive workforce issues, balance commercial and legal considerations, and ensure proper documentation and governance.
In addition, the position will oversee administration and operational support functions, driving process improvements, cost control, and efficiency initiatives across the organisation. The incumbent will also be responsible for leading workplace safety and compliance efforts, as well as supporting ESG and sustainability-related initiatives.
Operating within a matrix environment, the role will work closely with multiple senior stakeholders and Group HR to ensure alignment with Group policies, governance standards, and reporting requirements, while building strong relationships across teams in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
The Successful Applicant
The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 20 years of progressive HR experience, with a strong track record of leading HR teams across both Hong Kong and Mainland China. A deep understanding of the labour laws, regulatory frameworks, and market practices in both jurisdictions is essential.
The individual should have proven experience in managing complex employee relations matters, including restructuring, workforce planning, and labour disputes in China, ideally gained within logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, or other operationally intensive environments with China set-up exposure.
The role requires a commercially astute HR leader with strong stakeholder management and influencing capabilities, able to operate effectively within a matrix environment and partner closely with senior business leaders across multiple business units. Experience in overseeing cross-border teams, navigating joint venture structures, and working across multiple entities will be highly advantageous.
The ideal candidate will be hands-on, resilient, and detail-oriented, with excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. They should be comfortable managing sensitive and complex situations with sound judgement and professionalism. Fluency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin is required, and the role will involve periodic travel to Mainland China.
