Legal Counsel - International Financial Services

A leading international financial services organisation seeks a Legal Counsel in Hong Kong to provide strategic legal support and drive compliant business growth across global financial markets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal and regulatory counsel across wealth management, digital assets, investment banking, and global markets, supporting institutional and retail businesses while managing legal risk
• Lead legal support for financial products, securities transactions, financing activities, and new business initiatives by advising on structuring, distribution, regulatory compliance, and cross-border requirements
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documentation, including derivatives, commercial agreements, and transaction contracts, ensuring robust legal protection for business activities
• Drive compliance and governance by monitoring regulatory developments, advising stakeholders on legal implications, and developing policies, procedures, legal precedents, and governance frameworks
• Partner with business leaders, control functions, and external counsel to deliver high-quality legal support, oversee legal spend, and enable strategic business growth across multiple jurisdictions

Candidate profile

• 4–7 years' post-qualification experience in private practice or in-house within financial services, with wealth management experience highly preferred
• Strong experience advising on wealth management, digital assets, investment banking, global markets, securities transactions, and complex financial regulatory matters
• Proven experience supporting cross-border financial services operations, including regulatory compliance, product distribution, governance frameworks, and engagement with external counsel or regulators
• Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and negotiate derivatives documentation, commercial agreements, and other complex legal contracts within regulated environments
• Excellent analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, assess legal risks, and deliver pragmatic legal advice independently and collaboratively
