Trinity Square Cafe
Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity with a focus on mental health services and support? Consider applying to be a member of the Board of Directors of Trinity Square Cafe, a community-based program for adults living with mental illness in Toronto.
Trinity Square Cafe believes in the potential of people living with mental illness to contribute productively to their communities and develop their independence. For over 50 years, Trinity Square Cafe has been achieving its
mission of facilitating active social participation and concrete skill development in a transitional work environment (a cafe in downtown Toronto) for people living with mental illness.
Trinity Square Cafe’s Board of Directors is seeking a volunteer Director with experience working in the field of finance, and specifically with grant-writing expertise. The Board is responsible for providing leadership and strategic oversight of Trinity Square Cafe’s operations. We also work closely with the Executive Director to ensure program objectives are being met.
Interested individuals who have an understanding of mental health issues through lived experience, whether through a friend or family member, or personal experience are encouraged to apply. Previous non-profit board or other volunteer experience would also be preferable, but not a requirement.
Our board is committed to creating a diverse environment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to culture, ethnicity, race, color, religion, beliefs, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, nation of origin, disability, age, or veteran status.
The commitment is a two-year term, with an average time commitment of
4-6 hours per month. This includes a monthly board meeting which is scheduled for two hours, typically starting at 6pm. Each Director is also required to sit on a committee and attend meetings on an as needed basis. Each Director agrees to attend and actively participate regularly in board and committee meetings.
Board meetings are largely attended virtually with quarterly hybrid meetings with physical attendance in downtown Toronto. Board members should be willing to attend the AGM every year in July, in person.
We will be happy to work with applicants requesting accommodation at all stages of the hiring process.
We are looking to have new members join us throughout the Summer of 2026, and as such encourage interested applicants to submit their resumes before August 31, 2025.
Please send inquiries or resume and cover letter to tsc.boardofdirectors@gmail.com.
