Urban Designer

Bolton & Menk, Inc. is seeking an Urban Designer for their Charlotte, NC office. This entry-level position involves assisting with land use planning, landscape architecture, and community engagement to enhance urban design. Candidates should have a relevant degree and skills in design software. The role includes travel to various job sites.

In this entry level role, we are looking for individuals who will help foster our mission that All People Should Live in Safe, Sustainable and Beautiful Communities! The majority of your time will be spent assisting with land use planning, landscape architecture, multimodal transportation and environmental planning and design projects and tasks.

What You Will Be Doing

• Assists in developing planning and design studies, technical memorandums, land development reviews, development site or master plans, and reporting in support of new and updated urban design plans, concepts, programs, regulations, and proposed projects.
• Researched and supports a variety of urban design topics based on document review, data collection and analysis, and other methods.
• Assists with community engagement and outreach when developing and reviewing plans, including working with community groups, government agencies, developers, and elected officials.
• Supports or leads presentations and facilitated meetings with public officials, project clients, and project partners.
• Travel to facilities and other projected related locations as necessary.

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in planning, landscape architecture, or related field from an accredited college
• General understanding of placemaking and community design (building, streets, and public space types plus associated principles)
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and through drawings
• General knowledge and skills in hand or digital drawings, sketching, and renderings
• General knowledge and skills in design software such as CAD, Sketchup, or similar programs is preferred
• General knowledge in related software (i.e. MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Possess a valid drivers license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required
• Candidates should upload a portfolio with at least 3 examples of work.
