Description

The Urban/Transportation Planner II is responsible for assisting the Senior Planning staff with planning research, preparing documents, and coordinating special meetings, workshops, and aiding in the development of relationships with industry partners in the region.

Essential Functions

• Prepare and present reports and documents on development proposals, subdivisions, and zoning changes to government bodies.
• Collect statistical data and prepare reports, graphics, and maps on planning related topics.
• Assist in evaluation re-zonings, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances and other proposals.
• Attending evening Planning Commission, BZA and City Board/Council meetings as needed.
• Coordinating community review of public and private development projects.
• Creating and giving presentations at public meetings.
• Providing information to the public regarding development regulations.
• Coordinate with engineers to evaluate designs as it relates to environmental and community impacts.
• Lead/assist in compiling planning documents, including land use plans, major thoroughfare plans, comprehensive plans, etc..
• Assist in resolving citizen and customer issues.
• Assist with marketing efforts to communities.
• Conducting field evaluations and assessments under direct supervision.

Knowledge, Skill, And Ability Requirements

KNOWLEDGE

• Basic knowledge and understand of Microsoft office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Intermediate knowledge of state and/or local planning guidelines
• Intermediate knowledge of state and local government structures.
• Basic knowledge of ArcMap GIS and cartography (preferred)
• Basic knowledge of Adobe Indesign (preferred)
• Basic knowledge of Trimble software, including Sketchup and Cityworks (preferred)

• Organizational Skills – can marshal resources (people, funding, material, support, etc.) to get things done; can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish goals; uses resources effectively and efficiently; arranges information and files in a useful manner

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters degree in city / urban Planning, landscape architecture, transportation planning, geography, environmental science, or related discipline and 5 years of related experience OR
• Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of related experience
• Understanding of transportation and environmental planning principles
• Advanced technical writing experience
• Advanced communication and relationship building skills.
