About the Role
Atlas Management is hiring a Human Resources Director to lead HR strategy and operations for the organization, based in Portland with occasional travel to the Seattle and Eugene offices.
The Human Resources Director reports to the President and leads all HR functions at Atlas Management, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, compliance, and organizational development.
The role supervises the Payroll Manager and holds final decision-making authority on complex employee relations matters, disciplinary issues, and HR policy, partnering with senior leadership to align HR strategy with company goals.
Job Summary
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the company's objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance and counsel to the President and senior leadership on HR matters.
- Set strategic direction for talent acquisition, succession planning, compensation, and benefits within the property management industry.
- Use HR analytics and workforce data to inform decisions and identify trends.
- Lead initiatives to reinforce company culture and promote high performance and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and leave regulations; update policies and practices as needed.
- Complete all recruiting functions for the organization.
- Directly supervise the Payroll Manager, overseeing payroll coordination, leave administration, recruiting logistics, employee relations, and HRIS data integrity.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues, leave disputes, disciplinary decisions, and employee relations matters requiring senior judgment or formal action.
- Maintain the relationship with Insperity, including oversight of the PEO service agreement, annual renewals, and escalated service-level issues.
- Oversee HR systems, data governance, and audit readiness.
- Set standards for recruiting, hiring, and onboarding in partnership with department leaders and the Director of Training.
- Collaborate with leadership on offer terms, hiring exceptions, and compensation for new hires.
- Oversee payroll operations and serve as escalation support for complex or time-sensitive payroll matters.
- Partner with Insperity on benefits and retirement programs, including strategy, renewals, and employee communications.
- Conduct compensation benchmarking and equity reviews; advise leadership on pay decisions and market positioning.
- Serve as the senior authority on employee relations matters, including complex investigations, disciplinary actions, accommodations, and terminations.
- Lead performance management strategy, including goal-setting frameworks, in collaboration with the Vice President of Operations.
- Partner with the Director of Learning and Development to align onboarding and training initiatives with compliance and organizational development needs.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Maintenance on workplace safety and risk mitigation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least 7 years of progressive human resources experience.
- Experience leading employee relations, investigations, disciplinary processes, and complex terminations.
- Experience building HR structures, policies, and procedures in a growth business environment.
- Strong command of federal, Oregon, and Washington state employment laws and leave programs; experience working with employment counsel.
- Experience supervising HR or payroll professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related discipline.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
- Experience in the property management industry.
- Experience with Insperity or a similar PEO.
- Experience supporting employees across multiple locations.

- Strong leadership competencies with the ability to take the lead on HR matters, proactively identify problems, make sound recommendations, and resolve issues quickly and discreetly.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and oversee HR processes, strategies, and plans.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills; ability to build trust with employees at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly in complex or sensitive employee situations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with HR software, technology, and PEO platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work non-standard business hours, when needed.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
