Field Test Engineer

Mission

We are seeking a Field Test & Commissioning Engineer in Tampa, Florida to execute, document, and manage site testing activities in accordance with standard Test & Commissioning processes. In this role, you will be responsible for deep-level system troubleshooting, root-cause failure analysis, and working alongside product engineering teams to implement immediate containment and long-term sustainable solutions.

The ideal candidate prioritizes a safety-first culture while ensuring testing activities are delivered on time, with high quality, and in full compliance with relevant safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Execution & Operations

• Test Activity Execution: Safely execute field testing activities, record findings, and maintain precise records of test configurations and operational results.
• Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Conduct deep root-cause failure analysis on complex systems and field equipment.
• Issue Resolution: Support product engineers in identifying and defining both temporary containment measures and sustainable, long-term technical solutions.
• Safety & Integrity: Maintain the highest regard for operational safety, fail-safe principles, system reliability, and overall system integrity.
• Tool & Data Management: Utilize Quality and Test Management tools (e.g., Rational Quality Manager / IBM Engineering Test Management) to execute, record, and monitor field activities.

Documentation & Quality Control

• Procedure & Report Writing: Create detailed test procedures, control plans, and test instructions; compile field test results into comprehensive Test Reports.
• Document Lifecycle Management: Track and manage the complete lifecycle of testing documentation through official Product Data Management (PDM) / Engineering Document Control systems up to final publication.
• Defect & NCR Tracking: Report, track, and manage all Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) related to field operations and testing activities.
• Reporting: Report all field and test activities in a thorough and timely manner.

Collaboration & Planning

• Participate actively in test planning meetings and coordination sessions with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Ensure deliverables adhere to project timelines without compromising quality or safety.

Profile

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Systems, Telecommunications, or related field).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Test Engineer in the railway sector.
• Demonstrated experience writing test procedures, executing test plans, and compiling final field test reports.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

• Railway Systems: Solid understanding of railway signaling principles, software installation procedures, and system log retrieval/analysis.
• Signaling & CBTC: Hands-on experience in signaling and communications, with CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) highly preferred.
• Telecoms & Networking: Practical experience with telecommunications, server configurations, computer networking, and Radio Frequency (RF) systems.

Location, Travel & Licensing

• Location: Based in Tampa, Florida.
• Travel: Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites in Tampa and surrounding regional areas.
• Driver's License & Documentation: Must possess a valid driver's license and provide all pertinent documentation required to legally operate company vehicles in accordance with state and federal regulations.
