Position Summary Research Technician to work on the production and analysis of antibiotic-like compounds produced by non-pathogenic soil bacteria.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Conducts, evaluates, and maintains experiments; collects data and performs analysis.
• Data management.
• â‹Maintains safe and clean lab space. Â
• Trains and manages undergraduates in conduct of research. Â
• Restocks chemical and consumable inventories.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
• Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field.
• Experience in sterile technique, molecular biology, and basic biochemistry.
• Good communication, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task effectively.
• For applicants with molecular biology or biochemistry backgrounds, expertise in routine plasmid construction, PCR experimental design and execution, clone library construction, and/or protein expression and affinity purification are critical; proficiency in bacterial genetics is strongly desired.
• For applicants with a more chemistry background, expertise in using reverse phase and/or normal phase chromatography, HPLC/MS use and maintenance is needed; specific experience with small molecule chromatography/purification/quantification is strongly desired.Â

Salary Range $16.92 - $26.44 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
