DVT is looking for a passionate Intermediate Android Developer to join our Mobile Practice. You will work alongside experienced engineers, designers, and architects to build high-quality mobile solutions for leading organisations in South Africa and globally.
As part of a collaborative Agile team, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing Android applications using modern Android development practices, while continuously growing your technical expertise
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android technologies.
- Collaborate with designers, developers, QA engineers, and product stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Build responsive and intuitive user interfaces using Jetpack Compose.
- Integrate RESTful APIs and WebView-based journeys.
- Apply mobile security best practices and secure coding principles.
- Contribute to scalable, maintainable, and testable application architectures.
- Implement state management and lifecycle-aware solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Write clean, reusable, and efficient code aligned with engineering standards.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues.
- Stay current with Android development trends, tools, and best practices.
Technical Requirements
Android Development
- Solid knowledge of the Android Native framework and common first-party Android APIs.
- Good understanding of Android Architecture Components.
- Experience implementing MVVM architecture.
- Good understanding of Android application lifecycle management.
- Experience consuming RESTful APIs within mobile applications.
- Understanding of mobile application security principles and secure development practices.
Jetpack Compose
Practical experience with
- Material Design and custom composables.
- Activity, View, and Fragment lifecycle management.
- Composable lifecycle management.
- State management.
- Screen orientation handling.
- Localization and internationalisation considerations.
- Navigation and UI state handling.
Kotlin
Strong working knowledge of
- Collections and data structures.
- Scope functions.
- Coroutines and asynchronous programming.
- Lambdas and higher-order functions.
- Variables, visibility modifiers, and access control.
- Object-oriented programming concepts.
Architecture & Engineering Practices
- Understanding of SOLID principles and Clean Code practices.
- Understanding of common software design patterns.
- Experience with dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt, Dagger, or Koin.
- Exposure to unit testing and automated testing practices.
- Understanding of Git-based version control workflows.
Banking & Backbase
- Experience with Backbase is advantageous.
- Experience working on financial services or banking applications is beneficial.
Required Experience
- 3–6 years of professional Android development experience.
- 2+ years of commercial Kotlin development experience.
- 1+ years of experience building applications with Jetpack Compose.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments.
- Proven ability to deliver production-quality mobile applications.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative development team.
