Introduction

A Dynamic Petroleum/Logistics Company is seeking a highly experienced and CA(SA)-qualified Finance Manager to lead the finance function within a dynamic logistics and petroleum business.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall financial management of the organisation, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, strategic financial planning, cash flow optimisation, and effective business partnering across operations.

This role requires a commercially astute finance professional with strong experience in the logistics, fuel, petroleum, transport, supply chain, or related industries. The Finance Manager will provide strategic financial insight to support operational efficiency, profitability, and business growth.

Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Management

• Lead the company's finance and accounting function.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, Companies Act, Income Tax Act, and VAT legislation.
• Oversee month-end and year-end financial close processes.
• Develop and implement financial policies and internal controls.
• Prepare board packs and executive financial reports.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead annual budgeting and strategic planning processes.
• Prepare rolling forecasts and financial models.
• Monitor actual performance against budget.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities.
• Provide variance analysis and corrective action recommendations.

Cash Flow & Treasury

• Manage company cash flow and liquidity.
• Monitor banking facilities and funding requirements.
• Manage foreign exchange exposure where applicable.
• Optimise working capital.
• Oversee payment approvals and treasury functions.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Produce accurate management reports.
• Analyse profitability by division, customer, route, depot, and product.
• Prepare KPI dashboards.
• Support business decision-making through financial modelling.
• Present financial performance to executive management.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements.
• Liaise with external auditors.
• Manage annual audit processes.
• Oversee tax compliance including:
• VAT
• PAYE
• Corporate Income Tax
• Fuel Levies (where applicable)
• Implement and monitor internal financial controls.
• Ensure compliance with King IV governance principles.

Operational Finance

• Partner with logistics, fleet, warehouse, procurement, and operations teams.
• Analyse operational costs.
• Monitor fuel margins and transport profitability.
• Review depot performance.
• Support pricing decisions and contract negotiations.

Inventory & Cost Control

• Oversee inventory accounting.
• Monitor fuel stock reconciliations.
• Manage asset registers.
• Ensure accurate costing methodologies.
• Improve inventory controls.

Leadership

• Lead, mentor and develop the finance team.
• Conduct performance reviews.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build a high-performance finance culture.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Improve financial systems and reporting.
• Drive finance automation initiatives.
• Optimise ERP functionality.
• Implement process improvements to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) – Essential
• Registered with SAICA in good standing.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
• Postgraduate qualification (Advantageous).
