Maintenance Manager – Logistics

Position Overview
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all facility, equipment, and material handling equipment (MHE) maintenance activities at a site‑level operation within 3PL site operating in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This role ensures maximum equipment uptime, regulatory compliance, and safe, reliable operation of warehouse infrastructure in a high‑SKU, fast‑paced logistics environment.
The Maintenance Manager partners closely with Operations, Health & Safety, Engineering, IT, and Corporate teams to support daily execution, peak‑season readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability Management
- Lead all site maintenance activities for warehouse facilities and equipment, including:
- Conveyance systems
- Forklifts and powered industrial trucks
- Racking systems
- Dock equipment (levelers, doors, restraints)
- Automation and material handling systems (where applicable)
- Ensure high levels of equipment availability and uptime to support operational requirements
- Develop, execute, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and prioritize corrective actions to minimize operational impact
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians and contractors
- Ensure appropriate shift coverage to support multi‑shift or 24×7 operations
- Assign work orders, set priorities, and hold team members accountable for quality and timeliness
- Ensure technicians are properly trained, certified, and competent to perform assigned tasks
- Promote strong safety awareness and compliance within the maintenance team
Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and applicable regulations
- Partner with the Health & Safety Manager to ensure safe work practices, lockout/tagout compliance, and contractor safety management
- Support regulatory inspections and audits related to equipment safety and facility compliance
- Ensure all documentation, permits, and inspections are current and properly maintained
Facility & Asset Management
- Oversee building systems including HVAC, lighting, fire protection systems, and security infrastructure
- Manage asset lifecycle planning including repairs, refurbishments, and capital replacement
- Maintain accurate records for equipment, warranties, service contracts, and inspections
- Support site layout changes, racking modifications, and equipment installations
Planning, Budgeting & Cost Control
- Develop and manage site maintenance budgets, including labour, parts, and external services
- Control maintenance costs while ensuring safe and reliable operations
- Track maintenance KPIs such as uptime, work order completion, downtime events, and preventive maintenance compliance
- Support capital planning and justification for equipment upgrades and replacements
Cross‑Functional & Operational Support
- Partner with Operations to align maintenance activities with production schedules and peak periods
- Support new client launches, process changes, and capacity expansions
- Coordinate with IT and Engineering teams on system integrations and automation support
- Manage third‑party vendors, contractors, and service providers
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, safety, energy efficiency, and maintenance effectiveness
- Implement root‑cause analysis for recurring failures and downtime events
- Standardize maintenance practices and documentation in alignment with corporate standards
- Share best practices and lessons learned with other sites across the network
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Post‑secondary education in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of maintenance or facilities management experience, preferably in warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, or a 3PL environment
- Proven experience leading maintenance teams in a high‑volume, fast‑paced operation
- Experience supporting automated or conveyor‑based environments is an asset
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of:
- Mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems
- Material handling equipment and warehouse automation
- Preventive and corrective maintenance programs
- Experience with CMMS or maintenance management systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills
Leadership & Communication
- Hands‑on leadership style with a strong presence on the floor
- Ability to prioritize work and make decisions under pressure
- Strong communication skills with operations, safety, vendors, and leadership
- Ability to influence without direct authority in a matrixed environment
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment, including walking, standing, climbing, and exposure to industrial noise and equipment
- Flexibility to support off‑shift, weekend, or emergency maintenance as required
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)

Base Salary: $80-85,000/year
Bonus: Up to 10%
