About J3 Foundation

J3 Foundation (J3) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to give kids the foundation they need for a lifetime of reading success. J3 equips upper elementary students in under-resourced communities with the tools they need to achieve grade-level literacy while fostering positive self-image, self-confidence, a love of reading, and a lifelong identity as readers.

Launched in 2018 in response to alarming data showing that 4th graders who fall behind in reading face significantly higher risks of incarceration or public assistance as young adults, J3 provides reading intervention programs and after-school reading clubs to students across Los Angeles County — with ambitions to expand to cities nationwide. J3 is committed to changing that narrative, one reader at a time.

Position Summary

The Regional Program Manager (RPM) is responsible for high-quality implementation of J3 Foundation's literacy programs — the Cozy Reading Club and Building Bold Readers — across an assigned regional portfolio of school sites.

The RPM supervises and coaches site-based staff, serves as J3's primary relationship-holder with school leaders in the region, and ensures programs are delivered with fidelity to the standards, curriculum, and training designed by J3's program directors. The RPM is part of a team of regional leaders who together ensure consistent program quality across J3's full portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Program Implementation, Fidelity & Operations

• Manage implementation of the Cozy Reading Club and Building Bold Readers across all school sites in the assigned region
• Conduct regular site visits to observe sessions and instruction, using the observation rubrics and fidelity standards established by the program directors; deliver written feedback and coaching to site-based staff
• Track and submit fidelity data for the region; partner with the program directors to identify trends, gaps, and training needs
• Design and manage systems — in partnership with the other RPMs — for regional operations, including materials and book distribution, program calendars, site setup and closeout, and event logistics; standardize processes across all regions
• Ensure operational execution is appropriately delegated to site-based staff, vendors, or volunteers, reserving RPM time for supervision, coaching, and school relationships
• Address day-to-day implementation challenges within the region and escalate systemic issues to the Vice President, Program
• Participate in regular communities of practice facilitated by the program directors to calibrate quality expectations across all regions

Staff Supervision & Development

• Supervise site-based staff in the region, including part-time Club Coaches and Reading Coaches: onboarding, scheduling, ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and formal evaluations
• Collaborate with the program directors on staff recruitment and hiring for coaches
• Deliver program training to coaches using the training programs, facilitation guides, and materials built by the program directors
• Facilitate weekly check-ins with school teams to align on goals and address challenges
• Identify site- and staff-specific development needs and lead coaching to address them, partnering with the program directors for support on complex or persistent challenges

Data, Outcomes & Continuous Improvement

• Own regional performance against J3's annual program goals, including attendance and student outcome targets for the Cozy Reading Club and Building Bold Readers
• Monitor regional progress throughout the year; develop and execute action plans to close gaps in attendance, fidelity, or student growth
• Ensure accurate and timely collection of attendance, assessment, and implementation data across the region, following protocols established by the Director, Impact & Partnerships
• Participate in regular data review cycles with the VP, Program, and program directors; account for regional results and action plans
• Use data insights to target coaching, identify challenges, and adjust implementation within the region

School & Caregiver Partnerships

• Own the strength and health of J3's school relationships in the region: serve as primary liaison to principals and administrators, and ensure school leaders and teachers are satisfied with, informed about, and invested in J3's programs
• Proactively communicate student progress, program updates, and upcoming activities to school leaders and instructional staff; surface and resolve school concerns before they escalate
• Monitor school partner satisfaction and program integration at each site; flag at-risk relationships to the VP, Program early
• Lead caregiver engagement in the region: execute family-facing components of the engagement strategy designed by the program directors, including family events, communication about student progress, and opportunities for caregivers to support reading at home
• Coordinate site-level logistics for program events, book distributions, and family engagement activities through the regional operations systems

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Leadership, or a related field required; Master’s preferred
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including managing school-based programs and coaching staff
• Experience in effective instructional practices, including the ability to engage and manage small groups of students; experience observing instruction and delivering actionable feedback to educators (structured literacy or SIPPS experience a plus — training provided)
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple sites, and improve program outcomes
• Strong data fluency and the ability to use insights to drive change
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with school and community stakeholders
• Highly organized and adaptable problem-solver with a collaborative mindset
• Able to work reliably on site across the greater LA metro area, including regular travel between school sites; access to reliable transportation required

Work Environment & Travel

• Occasional evening or weekend work for training or events, including a minimum of one overnight trip for the annual J3 team retreat
• This is a site-based, in-person role — not remote or hybrid. The RPM spends the majority of each week on site: typically two days at school sites across the region and at least one day in the J3 office, with no more than one day per week working from home. Reliable transportation across the greater Los Angeles metro area is required. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Salary & Benefits

• The full salary range for this position is $85,000 – $105,0

• 0. Placement within the anticipated starting range will be based on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise as evaluated during the hiring process.
