Event Sales Manager – $5K+/Month

Location: Downtown Chicago, IL

Employment Type: 1099 Independent Contractor

Contract Duration: 3-Month Assignment (Through November)

Compensation & Position Highlights

• Base Compensation: $4,000+ per month ($2,000+ bi-weekly), comparable to the approximate take-home pay of a W-2 employee earning $70,000 annually in Illinois.
• Independent Contractor: 100% of earnings paid; no taxes withheld.
• Monthly Performance Bonus: Earn a 2% monthly bonus on ALL new event business booked and signed, with potential earnings of $1,000+ per month based on performance.

Work Schedule

• Days: Monday–Sunday, based on business needs
• Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Availability: Must be available to work weekends (If needed)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Event Sales Manager for a hotel task force assignment focused exclusively on selling and detailing meeting and event space.

The hotel offers approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and this position will be responsible for generating new business, converting leads into confirmed events, and managing the event detailing process from initial booking through execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate new meeting, event, corporate, social, wedding, and special event business.
• Prospect and develop new accounts through proactive sales calls, networking, referrals, and local market outreach.
• Conduct property tours and client presentations focused on the hotel’s meeting and event spaces.
• Sell approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space and maximize space utilization and revenue.
• Respond to inquiries, prepare proposals, negotiate terms, and close event business.
• Manage the complete event detailing process from contract through event execution.
• Create and maintain accurate BEOs, event resumes, room setups, timelines, menus, and other event documentation.
• Coordinate with Banquets, Food & Beverage, Operations, and other hotel departments to ensure successful event execution.
• Maintain accurate sales activity, booking, and revenue information within the hotel’s sales systems.
• Conduct pre-event meetings and client follow-ups to ensure all event details and expectations are clearly communicated.
• Develop strong client relationships to generate repeat and referral business.
• Work toward achieving meeting and event booking and revenue goals.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hotel event sales, catering sales, conference sales, or group sales experience required.
• Proven experience selling and detailing hotel meeting and event space.
• TripleSeat experience is highly preferred and will be the most important software qualification.
• Opera Cloud experience is preferred/ideal.
• Strong understanding of event detailing, BEOs, event resumes, room setups, timelines, and banquet operations.
• Proven ability to prospect for new business and successfully close event bookings.
• Experience managing multiple events, deadlines, and client requirements simultaneously.
• Strong knowledge of hotel banquet and event operations.
• Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and organizational skills.
• Highly self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of the hotel’s meeting and event sales pipeline.
