We are looking for a highly organised and motivated Market Manager (Operations) to oversee the day-to-day management and operation of our markets. This is a hands on role requiring strong leadership, operational management skills, and a commitment to delivering a safe, vibrant, and successful market environment for traders, customers, and visitors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of market operations, maintaining high standards of customer service, building positive relationships with traders and partners, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and health and safety requirements.
The role involves leading the daily operation of the market to ensure services are delivered effectively, managing and supporting market staff and contractors, and developing strong working relationships with traders, customers, stakeholders, and partner organisations.
You will monitor market performance, identify opportunities for growth and improvement, oversee market layouts, trader allocations and licensing arrangements, and ensure that operational procedures and standards are always maintained.
The postholder will also be responsible for investigating and resolving customer and trader enquiries or complaints in a professional and timely manner, overseeing site maintenance, cleanliness, security and general operational standards, and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, risk assessments and regulatory requirements.
In addition, you will monitor budgets, income, expenditure and performance targets, support the planning and delivery of market events, promotions and special initiatives, and prepare reports, performance data and operational updates for senior management.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a proactive and flexible approach, excellent problem solving skills, a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders while contributing to the continued growth, development and success of our markets.
You will be a confident and proactive person with excellent organisational and communication skills. You will have experience in operational services and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment, which includes weekends, where no two days are the same.
You must have the ability to manage operational budgets using a variety of systems and procedures. Knowledge of Pest Control and Food Safety issues and their enforcement in trading environments, as well as a knowledge of procedures relating to monetary collection, arrears management and debt recovery are key.
