Operations Shift Manager (Outbound)

Hours:40 hours per week (5:30am – 2:00pm, flexibility with day pattern required)

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Shift Manager will lead all outbound warehouse activities, including Picking, Packing, and Despatch. This role is responsible for ensuring customer orders are fulfilled accurately, efficiently, and safely while driving performance, productivity, employee engagement, and continuous improvement across the shift.

Key Responsibilities

Shift Management

• Lead and coordinate Warehouse Supervisors, Team Leaders, Operatives, and agency staff across outbound operations.
• Allocate workloads effectively across Picking, Packing, and Despatch functions.
• Monitor outbound KPIs to ensure productivity targets and service levels are achieved.
• Resolve operational issues promptly and adapt priorities where required to maintain workflow and efficiency.

Outbound Operations

• Oversee the complete outbound process from order release through to carrier despatch.
• Maintain effective communication and shift handovers to ensure operational continuity.
• Collaborate closely with inbound teams and supporting departments to maximise warehouse performance.
• Prioritise customer orders and ensure resources are deployed effectively.
• Monitor order accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal processes and systems.

People Leadership

• Manage, coach, and develop Supervisors, Team Leaders, Operatives, and temporary staff.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and support.
• Identify training requirements and implement development plans.
• Manage employee relations matters, including investigations, absence management, and performance improvement plans.
• Track and report on departmental KPIs and performance metrics.
• Utilise Cost Per Unit (CPU) data to make informed operational decisions.

Quality, Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with company procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.
• Promote safe working practices and correct use of PPE and equipment.
• Conduct regular audits and address any risks or non-compliance promptly.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to drive productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

• Understanding of Cost Per Unit (CPU) metrics and their application within warehouse operations.
• Experience with warehouse management systems; knowledge of Peoplevox would be advantageous but is not essential.
