The role
You'll be accountable for ensuring the business's innovative digital services and platforms meet user needs and agreed outcomes for the client, while ensuring delivery follows good governance and quality standards.
You'll empower and support your teams to perform well, learn and grow in line with company values, and leverage successful delivery and senior client relationships to win new business with existing customers — taking on wider senior management responsibilities as required.
Delivery
- Set the vision for the project and be responsible for delivering agreed outcomes for the client
- Establish critical success factors beyond the traditional measures of on time, on budget and to scope, ensuring each workstream has a plan to achieve them
- Be accountable for achieving or exceeding profitability targets, plus accurate, timely forecasting and reporting (revenue, staffing, work in progress, debt, etc.)
- Develop and deliver a strategy for adding value to the client, proactively managing expectations and addressing issues promptly
- Motivate and empower teams to create a positive, creative culture where people can perform, learn and grow
- Ensure team members have clear goals, regular feedback and timely, constructive appraisals
- Take accountability for staffing and onboarding new team members
- Act as the escalation point for issues relating to an individual, team or project
- Build and maintain constructive, collaborative relationships with the client and other suppliers/stakeholders
Governance
- Ensure appropriate project governance and technical quality standards are developed and followed throughout the project lifecycle
- Work with the assurance function to support health checks, risk assessments and follow-up activity
- Comply, and ensure team members comply, with confidentiality, non-disclosure and information security policies at all times
Business Development & Account Management
- Drive future growth by working with Sales & Account Management to identify profitable opportunities, scope innovative solutions and influence the sales/procurement cycle
- Promote successes across the business and to the market, through case studies, award submissions, blogs, etc.
- Take responsibility for contracts and commercial terms on the project
Professional Development and Growth
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the Management and Leadership capability
- Stay current on thinking from Technology, Experience Design and Consulting capabilities
- Encourage innovation in technology and process, both within and outside the project
- Proactively assist with recruitment to support stable organisational growth
Minimum (essential) requirements
- 5 years managing successful, technology-driven projects using agile methodology, delivering digital transformation programmes (mobile/web application)
- 5+ years' experience within a client-facing consultancy
- Experience in project governance, owning budgets of £1M+ (forecasting, stakeholder reporting)
- Demonstrable ability to create future business opportunities (involved in BD)
- Experience managing at least one industry vertical (Tech, Health or Government)
- Experience taking responsibility for contract and commercial terms on projects
- Strong proficiency making critical decisions under pressure while balancing client demands
Desirable
- Experience delivering digital transformation projects
- Experience managing large-scale agile projects with distributed teams in a multi-supplier environment
- Experience of user research, analytics and design disciplines, and their contribution to digital service delivery
- Evidence of securing significant follow-on business with an existing client
- Evidence of innovating or leading initiatives to improve management and leadership practices
- Evidence of thought leadership in the public domain
- A current, recognised Project or Programme Management certification
