COMPASS
The COMPASS School is seeking a teaching assistant who would report to the Educational Coordinator and is part of the Direct Care Team. Teaching Assistants are responsible for supporting the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and operational functioning of the classroom by assisting teachers with classroom management, student engagement, and general classroom organization and upkeep.
Teaching Assistants help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment by responding to student needs, supporting daily routines and transitions, assisting with classroom coverage and lesson implementation when needed.
Teaching Assistants must understand the clinical, behavioral, and educational needs of their students, and must understand, respond to, and embrace the cultural and linguistic diversity among COMPASS staff and students. Teaching Assistants meet regularly with Teachers, Clinicians and Caseworkers for treatment team meetings.
The COMPASS School is a therapeutic day-school that serves students aged 6-21 with varying disabilities including emotional impairment, behavior disorders, and other disabilities that require special education in an individualized environment. Students are referred from school districts in eastern Massachusetts for whom school has been a struggle.
Students attend COMPASS on the basis of their individual needs either for a short-term period of evaluation or a long-term placement at COMPASS. The COMPASS School utilizes a therapeutic approach to build resiliency among its students by providing them with distinct programs based on age, cognitive levels, emotional needs, and academic requirements.
The COMPASS School includes grades 1-12 as well as a vocational and a transitions program.
COMPASS is a supportive work environment with great benefits and a positive work environment. The salary is based on a 10 month school schedule. There will be opportunity to work our 6 week summer program which is additional pay.
