Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in 11kV Medium-Voltage and Low-Voltage infrastructure works.
The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising, coordinating, executing, testing, commissioning, and obtaining authority approvals for MV and LV electrical infrastructure works in accordance with EtihadWE/EWE regulations, approved drawings, project specifications, and UAE safety standards.
The position requires strong practical experience with 11kV substations, transformers, RMUs, QRMs, MV cables, LV panels, utility interfaces, shutdowns, energization procedures, and authority inspections.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, supervise, and execute 11kV MV and LV infrastructure works.
- Coordinate installation, testing, commissioning, and energization of:
- Distribution transformers
- Ring Main Units (RMUs)
- QRMs and associated MV switchgear
- 11kV MV cables
- LV cables and feeder systems
- MDBs, SMDBs, DBs, feeder pillars, and capacitor banks
- Earthing and lightning-protection systems
- Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, load schedules, cable schedules, and technical specifications.
- Prepare and review method statements, risk assessments, inspection requests, material submittals, testing procedures, and technical documentation.
- Ensure that all works comply with EtihadWE/EWE regulations, approved standards, utility requirements, and project specifications.
- Coordinate with EtihadWE/EWE engineers for submissions, inspections, shutdowns, testing, commissioning, and final energization.
- Manage MV cable laying, duct-bank installation, cable pulling, jointing, termination, testing, and route coordination.
- Supervise transformer, RMU, QRM, LV panel, feeder pillar, and associated equipment installation.
- Coordinate authority shutdown applications, permits, switching schedules, and energization activities.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, main contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, utility representatives, and site teams.
- Conduct site surveys and verify existing underground and above-ground electrical services.
- Monitor project progress and ensure completion in accordance with the approved programme.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Verify material quantities, technical compliance, delivery schedules, and site requirements.
- Identify technical issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
- Ensure proper quality-control inspections and close out consultant or authority comments.
- Supervise testing activities, including:
- Insulation-resistance testing
- Continuity testing
- Earth-resistance testing
- MV cable testing
- VLF/Hi-Pot testing, where applicable
- Transformer testing
- RMU and switchgear functional testing
- Protection-relay testing and coordination
- Maintain complete project records, test reports, inspection approvals, as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and handover documentation.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements, particularly during MV works, shutdowns, and energization.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant UAE experience in electrical infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in 11kV MV and LV infrastructure works.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Transformers
- RMUs and QRMs
- MV and LV switchgear
- 11kV cable systems
- Substation installations
- MV cable jointing and termination coordination
- Utility shutdown and energization procedures
- EWE/EtihadWE regulations and submission requirements
- Previous experience handling EtihadWE/EWE inspections, approvals, shutdowns, and energization is required.
- Ability to read and interpret SLDs, layouts, schematics, specifications, and authority-approved drawings.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and project reporting tools.
- Good technical documentation, coordination, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to independently manage site activities and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
Mandatory Requirements
- Valid UAE driving licence.
- Immediately available or able to join at short notice.
- Currently available in the UAE.
- Practical experience in 11kV MV and LV infrastructure works.
- Familiarity with EtihadWE/EWE utility rules and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing or previous EtihadWE/EWE approval as an Electrical Engineer will be a significant advantage.
- Experience with pocket substations, utility substations, infrastructure networks, and large-scale electrical projects.
- Experience in testing, commissioning, authority inspections, shutdowns, and energization of 11kV systems.
- Valid UAE engineering registration or other relevant professional certification.
Contract Details
- Temporary employment contract for 6 to 12 months, depending on project requirements and performance.
- Salary and benefits will be discussed based on experience, qualifications, and authority approvals.
- The position may require work at different project locations within the UAE.
