Little Black House is a boutique interior design firm specializing in thoughtfully curated multifamily, hospitality, & commercial environments throughout the United States. We believe exceptional design is about more than creating beautiful spaces, it’s about creating memorable experiences.

We are seeking an experienced, creative, and highly motivated Senior Interior Designer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects, collaborating with a close-knit team, mentoring junior designers, and contributing to the continued growth of a boutique design firm.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Interior Designer, you will lead projects from concept through completion while collaborating closely with the Principal, clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors to deliver exceptional design solutions.

Responsibilities include

• Manage multiple interior design projects from programming and concept development through final installation.
• Conduct due diligence visits, field verification, site surveys, and project assessments.
• Develop creative design concepts, mood boards, finish palettes, material selections, and space plans.
• Produce detailed construction documents including finish plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, interior details, millwork details, and complete drawing packages.
• Create high-quality SketchUp models and photorealistic Lumion renderings.
• Prepare FF&E specifications, finish schedules, procurement documentation, and installation packages.
• Specify furniture, lighting, flooring, wall finishes, plumbing fixtures, accessories, artwork, custom millwork, and decorative materials.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, fabricators, consultants, manufacturers, and vendors throughout every phase of a project.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and construction progress to ensure design intent is maintained.
• Assist with budgeting, value engineering, procurement, and product sourcing.
• Participate in construction administration and help resolve field conditions.
• Travel to project sites as needed, including occasional overnight travel to out-of-state projects, for due diligence, client meetings, field verification, installations, punch lists, and project closeout.
• Oversee furniture installations, artwork placement, styling, and final project execution to ensure every detail reflects the Little Black House standard of excellence.
• Successfully manage multiple projects while maintaining exceptional organization, communication, and attention to detail.

In this role, you will

• Mentor and support junior designers, helping them grow both creatively and technically.
• Share best practices and encourage continuous learning within the studio.
• Review drawings and design work, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
• Help maintain studio organization, quality standards, and project workflows.
• Support the Principal by helping keep projects moving efficiently and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Take initiative, solve problems independently, and contribute wherever needed in a boutique studio environment.
• Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendor partners while representing Little Black House with professionalism and integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional interior design experience.
• Multifamily experience is strongly preferred.
• Hospitality, commercial, or luxury residential experience is a plus.
• Experience managing projects from concept through completion.
• Strong understanding of interior architecture, construction documentation, detailing, and construction administration.
• Excellent space planning and technical drawing skills.
• Strong knowledge of furniture, lighting, finishes, textiles, materials, and specifications.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings.
• Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and time management skills.
• Self-motivated, dependable, proactive, and solutions-oriented.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced boutique design studio where flexibility, initiative, and teamwork are essential.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel by air and automobile as project needs require, including occasional overnight travel.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $85,000–$95,000, commensurate with experience.
