Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant - IP Litigation

We’re hiring an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant / Litigation Legal Secretary to support a busy Intellectual Property Litigation team in our downtown San Diego office. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and proactive litigation professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys supporting complex, high-stakes matters.

What You’ll Do

You’ll play a key role in supporting attorneys handling sophisticated intellectual property and complex commercial litigation matters in federal courts and administrative forums. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, responsive, and capable of managing a heavy litigation desk with competing deadlines.

Responsibilities include

• Drafting, formatting, proofreading, and managing pleadings, motions, discovery, subpoenas, correspondence, and other litigation documents
• Handling heavy district court e-filing, including federal court filings without the use of a full-service e-filing vendor
• Maintaining attorney calendars and tracking litigation deadlines across multiple matters
• Communicating professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors
• Assisting attorneys with logistics and preparation for hearings, mediations, arbitrations, trials, and case strategy meetings
• Supporting matters involving coordinated or complex litigation procedures, including JCCP matters where applicable
• Assisting with matters before the International Trade Commission (“ITC”), or learning ITC procedures and filing requirements as needed
• Collaborating closely with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative team members to support the overall needs of the practice group

What We’re Looking For

• At least 7 years of litigation legal assistant or litigation legal secretary experience within a law firm environment
• Intellectual property litigation experience strongly preferred; substantial federal court filing experience will also be considered
• Experience with district court e-filing and federal litigation procedures required
• Familiarity with JCCP or other complex litigation matters preferred
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
• Flexibility and willingness to work occasional late hours to support filing deadlines and trial needs
• Ability to work in the San Diego office at least three days per week
• Interest in or ability to support billable work is a plus

Procopio offers generous total compensation packages. Typical pay range is from $85,000 – $100,000+ depending on experience. If your pay expectation is outside this range, we still encourage you to apply. Bonuses are awarded in recognition of individual and firm performance.
