1st Party Defense Paralegal

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented First-Party Insurance Litigation Paralegal to join our nationally recognized insurance coverage boutique law firm on site. The ideal candidate will possess 3-7 years of litigation experience, preferably in first-party insurance defense, and thrive in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

As a key member of our litigation team, you will work closely with attorneys, clients, experts, and insurance carriers while taking ownership of case management from inception through resolution. Unlike larger firms, our boutique practice offers the opportunity for meaningful involvement in every stage of litigation, direct attorney interaction, and the ability to make a significant impact on case outcomes.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced litigation environment. Experience with Filevine case management software is strongly preferred.

Duties

• Assist attorneys with all phases of first-party insurance defense litigation, including claim analysis, document review, discovery, and trial preparation.
• Manage and maintain case files using Filevine and other legal technology platforms.
• Draft, review, and proofread pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, reports, and correspondence.
• Conduct legal and factual research utilizing Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, and other research tools.
• Coordinate depositions, mediations, inspections, examinations under oath (EUOs), hearings, and trial-related activities.
• Communicate effectively with clients, insurance adjusters, witnesses, experts, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
• Track and manage litigation deadlines, court appearances, and case developments to ensure compliance with all scheduling orders and procedural requirements.
• Assist with electronic filing in Florida state courts and federal courts.
• Organize and summarize claim files, expert reports, property records, and other case-related documents.
• Prepare case status reports and litigation summaries for attorneys and insurance carrier clients.
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive and privileged information.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3-7 years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in insurance defense or first-party litigation.
• Strong knowledge of Florida civil litigation procedures and court rules.
• Experience managing litigation files from inception through trial and/or resolution.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience with Filevine case management software is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with legal research platforms such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, and PACER.
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high level of professionalism.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
• Experience with electronic court filing in Florida state and federal courts.
• Florida Registered Paralegal (FRP) designation is a plus, but not required.
