Director of Human Resources

RPI Executive Search has partnered with an international industrial services organization in their search for a Director of Human Resources, based in Calgary to provide strategic HR leadership, drive organizational effectiveness, and support the execution of key business priorities across a complex, multi-site organization.

The Director of Human Resources will lead the development and execution of medium and long term HR strategies focused on talent acquisition, employee engagement, retention, labour relations, compensation, leadership development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.

This individual will play a key role in driving change initiatives, supporting organizational growth, and fostering a high-performance culture.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Lead the development and execution of HR strategies aligned with organizational and operational objectives
• Serve as a trusted advisor to operational and corporate leaders on people, culture, and workforce matters
• Oversee employee engagement and retention initiatives to support a positive employee experience
• Provide strategic guidance on complex labour relations matters, including collective bargaining preparation and unionized workforce considerations
• Partner with business leaders to drive organizational change, workforce planning, and talent initiatives
• Contribute to the design and implementation of performance management, leadership development, and coaching programs
• Support the development and execution of competitive total rewards strategies that attract and retain top talent
• Monitor workforce trends, employee feedback, and key HR metrics to inform decision-making and continuous improvement
• Lead and mentor HR team members while fostering collaboration across multiple stakeholder groups
• Drive the successful execution of cross-functional projects and strategic HR initiatives with broad organizational impact

Candidate Experience

While no individual will embody every quality, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications and personal competencies:

• 8+ years of progressively senior Human Resources leadership experience
• Post-secondary education combined with a recognized HR designation or equivalent certification
• Strong background in labour relations, including experience supporting unionized environments
• Experience leading broad HR generalist functions within complex, multi-stakeholder organizations
• Exposure to organizational change initiatives, business transformation, acquisitions, or integration activities is considered an asset
• Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
• Strong knowledge of employment legislation, human rights requirements, and workplace best practices
• Excellent communication, influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
• Proven ability to lead through change and drive organizational alignment across diverse stakeholder groups
• Highly organized with strong project management skills and a track record of delivering results in fast-paced environments

Location

Calgary, AB. This role requires regular travel throughout Western Canada.
