Role Purpose
The Lead Business Analyst - Platform Capabilities plays a critical role in ensuring that strategic business intent is translated into clear, testable and implementable requirements that enable effective delivery across digital platforms, core systems, data environments and operational processes.
The role provides functional leadership across the business analysis discipline by setting standards, improving the quality of analysis artefacts, and ensuring consistency in how requirements, business rules, process designs and traceability are defined across squads and domains.
The Lead Business Analyst acts as the bridge between strategic product direction and detailed delivery execution. The role does not own product prioritisation, technical architecture or delivery management; instead, it ensures that the business need is properly understood, accurately interpreted and sufficiently detailed for successful solution design, build, testing and implementation.

- Business Analysis certification advantageous
Experience
- 8–12+ years’ experience in Business analysis, Process and solution design
- Experience leading BA teams or communities of practice
- Proven experience in complex, cross-platform environments
- Strong capability in process modelling, requirements frameworks, data and business rule definition
Duties and Responsibilities
Business Analysis Leadership, Standards & Governance
- The Lead BA defines & embeds business analysis standards, methods, templates & good practice across the relevant domain in conjunction with the BA community of practice.
- The role ensures that requirements, process definitions & business rules are documented consistently, are reusable where appropriate, & meet the quality standard required for delivery.
- The Lead BA provides functional guidance to Business Analysts & Business Systems Analysts across squads, supporting them to apply consistent analysis practices & to produce clear, complete & well-structured artefacts.
- The role establishes common approaches to documentation aligned to the BA community of practice, traceability, requirement structuring & stakeholder validation so that analysis work can be relied on across delivery teams.
Requirements Definition, Quality & Traceability
- In a platform domain, the Lead BA defines core platform capability requirements & ensures that these requirements support scalability, reuse & consistency across domains & specialist functional areas like Tax, Finance & Governance.
- The Lead BA translates strategic initiatives & business priorities into detailed requirements, user story inputs, acceptance criteria, business rules & supporting process logic.
- The Lead BA ensures that platform capability decisions are supported by clear business logic, process understanding & cross-domain requirement alignment.
- The role ensures that every requirement is clearly linked to the underlying business need, expected outcome & delivery objective, creating end-to-end traceability from intent through to implementation for the full Wealth value chain.
- The Lead BA reviews analysis artefacts for completeness, consistency, clarity & testability before they are used for design, development, testing or implementation.
- The role actively resolves ambiguity in requirements & ensures that stakeholders have a shared understanding of what is being delivered & why it matters.
- The role works closely with product, architecture & delivery teams to ensure that platform requirements are clearly articulated & aligned to modular, sustainable solution design.
Process Design & Optimisation
- The Lead BA defines & documents current-state & future-state processes in a way that supports business decision-making, solution design & change implementation.
- The role identifies opportunities to simplify, standardise, automate or improve processes, with a focus on reducing operational friction, duplication, risk & unnecessary complexity.

- The role works closely with product, operations, technology & architecture stakeholders to ensure that future-state process designs are practical, sustainable & aligned to strategic intent.
Cross-domain Integration & Alignment
- The Lead BA ensures that requirements, process designs & business rules are aligned across squads, platforms & business domains.
- The role identifies duplication risks, conflicting requirements, dependency impacts & areas where business logic may be interpreted differently across teams or systems.
- The Lead BA acts as a central integrator of business logic & process consistency, ensuring that squads do not solve similar problems in inconsistent or fragmented ways.
- The role supports cross-domain alignment by surfacing dependencies early & ensuring that requirements are understood in the context of the broader operating model.
Business Rules & Data Definition
- The Lead BA defines, documents & governs the business rules, decision logic & data definitions that underpin business processes & guide how solutions should behave.
- The role ensures that business rules are interpreted consistently across systems, squads & stakeholder groups, reducing rework & improving the reliability of delivery outcomes.
- The Lead BA enables the reuse & standardisation of business logic across domains wherever this supports efficiency, scalability & consistency.
- The role works with data, architecture & technology stakeholders to ensure that business definitions are sufficiently clear for system design, reporting & downstream operational use.
- Each domain area remains accountable for defining its own business data requirements, data flows, reporting needs & the business meaning of key data elements. The Lead BA supports the relevant domain areas by helping to clarify, document & align data, analytics & reporting requirements, particularly where these are cross-cutting or not already covered within another domain.
Stakeholder Clarification & Requirement Validation
- The Lead BA engages stakeholders through structured conversations, workshops & working sessions to elicit, clarify & validate business requirements.
- The role resolves ambiguity early by testing assumptions, confirming business intent & ensuring that stakeholders are aligned on scope, process impact & expected outcomes.
- The Lead BA ensures that requirements are not simply captured, but are actively challenged, refined & validated so that the final artefacts reflect a robust understanding of the business need.
- The role builds shared understanding between business, product, operations, technology, data & delivery stakeholders.
Delivery Enablement & Solution Validation
- The Lead BA supports Product Owners & delivery squads by ensuring that backlog items are underpinned by clear business context, well-defined requirements & testable acceptance criteria.
- The role contributes to backlog refinement, solution validation & delivery discussions by providing clarity on the underlying business logic, process implications & requirement intent.
- The Lead BA validates that proposed solutions remain aligned to the original business need & that delivered outcomes can be traced back to approved requirements.
- The role supports readiness for testing & implementation by ensuring that requirements are complete, practical, understandable & fit for use by delivery teams.
Continuous Improvement & Capability Development
- The Lead BA continuously improves the maturity of business analysis practices across the domain by identifying gaps, strengthening methods & promoting consistent ways of working in conjunction with the BA community of practice
- The role coaches & mentors Business Analysts, helping them to improve their analytical thinking, stakeholder facilitation, documentation quality & understanding of the broader operating model.
- The Lead BA builds analysis capability by sharing good practice, creating reusable artefacts & supporting the development of a stronger community of practice.
- The role contributes to continuous improvement by identifying recurring delivery issues that originate from unclear requirements, inconsistent processes or weak traceability.
