Mining Technology & Sustainability Director

CONFIDENTIAL Scovai, a pioneering force in the Talent Acquisition & Recruiting sector, is partnering with a leading mining and resources organisation to identify an exceptional Mining Technology & Sustainability Director based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

This hybrid, director-level appointment sits within the Engineering department and represents a rare opportunity to shape the future of mining operations through the convergence of advanced digital technologies and world-class ESG leadership.

The successful candidate will serve as the strategic architect of the organisation's digital transformation roadmap and sustainability agenda, driving measurable impact across operational efficiency, environmental compliance, and long-term value creation.

In this role, you will lead the design and deployment of cutting-edge technologies including IoT sensor networks, digital twins, and automation platforms across mining operations, while owning the full P&L accountability for the technology and sustainability portfolio.

You will develop and execute ESG strategies aligned with globally recognised frameworks such as GRI, ICMM, ISO 14001, and TCFD, ensuring regulatory compliance across the African operating environment. Cross-functional leadership, executive stakeholder engagement, and the ability to translate complex technical and sustainability challenges into boardroom-ready strategy are central to this mandate.

Proven implementation of renewable energy solutions and microgrid/battery storage systems for remote mining operations

Expertise in industrial OT/ICS cybersecurity and relevant standards (eg. IEC 62443) for protecting mine control systems

Demonstrated experience in carbon accounting, SBTi alignment, TCFD reporting and sustainability disclosure frameworks

Track record in mine closure, rehabilitation planning and biodiversity offsets/ecological restoration

Strong stakeholder and social‑license experience, including community and Indigenous engagement, land‑use negotiation and multi‑party consensus building
