Main Purpose of the Role

This individual will lead and support the delivery of a portfolio of public sector strategy, digital transformation, Smart Cities, organisational development, infrastructure, and investment advisory projects.

Working with governments, development partners, and private sector stakeholders across Africa and the Middle East, the successful candidate will help design and implement innovative, technology-enabled solutions that improve service delivery, urban management, institutional performance, and economic development outcomes.

The role requires a blend of analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills, and often demands a high level of adaptability and flexibility to meet the diverse needs of different clients across multiple locations simultaneously.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Project Leadership: Independently lead large projects, with direct line reporting into the Principal or Directors in South Africa or Internationally
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor junior consultants and team members. Fostering a collaborative team environment and encouraging continuous learning and development.
• Client Leadership Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their business needs and challenges, and being the primary point of contact.
• Thought Leadership: Initiate and/or facilitate discussions with the client to identify areas of proposed improvements with the ability to influence decision making.
• Business Development: Ability to develop new business opportunities, through the development of tender documents and/or building relationships with partners or clients.
• Project Management:
• Appropriately structure and define complex client problems concisely and develop hypotheses to identify solutions.
• Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis to support solution building. This includes:
• Own the consolidation and production of high-quality strategy, policy, economic, financial, business model and institutional analysis to support the delivery of client projects.
• Present findings to clients, partners and senior decision makers in government, development finance and the private sector with a high level of confidence
• Manage cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams to tackle complex business, economic, social, and environmental challenges, internationally.
• Ability to manage change in a rapidly changing environment.
• Ensure the quality of deliverables and manage potential risks associated with projects.
• Quantitative research methodologies include data mining, creating financial models, and analysis.
• Qualitative research methodologies include performing market research and collecting business intelligence.
• Develop frameworks or apply existing methods to support analysis.

Key qualification, skills and attributes

Required

• A Master’s Degree in an appropriate field including (but not limited to) IT, Business / Computer Science, Management, Engineering or MBA.
• 8–10 years’ experience in strategy consulting, management consulting, urban development, infrastructure advisory, digital transformation, smart cities, economic development, or investment advisory, preferably with previous experience from a Tier 1 or 2 consultancy.
• Demonstrable interest and/or practical experience of working on challenging developmental and business challenges in frontier markets in Africa or the Middle East.

Preferred

• Experience of working in Africa, Middle East, and other frontier markets
• Foreign language proficiency in Arabic or French.
• Experience developing or implementing Smart City, digital governance, ICT infrastructure or digital transformation programmes.
• Familiarity with international Smart City frameworks, urban innovation ecosystems, and digital governance models.
