Accountant - Job Cost & Project Accountant (Deltek Ajera)

We are a growing NYC Architecture & Engineering firm dedicated to delivering exceptional design and consulting services. We are seeking an experienced Accountant with strong job cost accounting and project accounting expertise to support our financial operations and project management team.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Deltek Ajera and a thorough understanding of project-based accounting within the A&E industry.

Position Summary

The Accountant will be responsible for managing project accounting, job cost reporting, billing support, and financial analysis related to our client engagements. This role works closely with firm leadership to ensure project profitability, accurate financial reporting, and effective cost control.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor project accounting records within Deltek Ajera.
• Review and analyze project budgets, labor costs, consultant expenses, and project profitability.
• Prepare and reconcile monthly work-in-process (WIP) schedules.
• Assist with client invoicing and revenue recognition.
• Monitor project budgets and identify cost overruns or billing issues.
• Prepare project financial reports for project managers and leadership.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Review employee timesheets and labor allocations for accuracy.
• Coordinate consultant invoice processing and project cost allocations.
• Support annual financial statement and tax reporting requirements with external CPAs.
• Develop and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls related to project accounting.
• Consistent and timely AR follow up.
• Maintain all company insurances, licenses and certifications.
• Maintain project specific financial files.
• Maintain PTO records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within an Architecture, Engineering, or Professional Services firm.
• Strong experience using Deltek Ajera.
• Thorough understanding of job cost accounting and project-based financial reporting.
• Experience with WIP reporting, utilization metrics, and project profitability analysis.
• Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial reporting.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Architecture & Engineering industry accounting.
• Familiarity with direct and indirect cost allocations.
• Experience supporting project managers with financial planning and forecasting.

Pay: $82,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
