Construction Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper

A fast growing mechanical contractor in NYC is looking for a full time Construction Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper to be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, including AP and receivable, job costing, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.

The individual will be a self started, able to come in Day 1 and prepare and review financial reports, track project budgets, support month-end and year-end closing, and assist with documentation for audits and tax filings.

Daily tasks include working in a fast paced environment, coordinating with project managers on cost tracking, maintaining accurate records for subcontracts and change orders, processing payroll data and employee expenses, and ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant regulations.

The role also involves improving accounting processes, maintaining organized files and systems, and supporting leadership with timely financial insights for decision-making.

Qualifications

• Strong accounting and bookkeeping skills, including job costing, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, and reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Quickbooks, accounting and ERP software commonly used in construction (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms), and solid Excel skills for reporting and analysis.
• Experience preparing financial statements, managing budgets, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with project managers, field teams, vendors, and leadership; ability to explain financial information clearly.
• Relevant experience in construction, mechanical contracting, or a related industry; prior experience as a senior bookkeeper or staff accountant is highly beneficial.
• Demonstrated integrity, discretion with sensitive financial data, and a commitment to continuous improvement of accounting processes.
