Position Summary

The Accountant/Bookkeeper and Data Assistant reports directly to the CFO and is responsible for the day-to-day financial recordkeeping and accounting functions of the organization. This role maintains accurate books, processes transactions, supports reporting, and helps ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting standards.

The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Transactions

• Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Prepare and process bank deposits
• Manage vendor invoices, expense reports, and reimbursements
• Reconcile bank, credit card, and other accounts monthly

General Ledger & Accounting

• Maintain accurate general ledger and chart of accounts
• Post journal entries and ensure proper coding of transactions
• Track restricted and unrestricted funds appropriately
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes

Payroll & Benefits

• Process payroll and maintain payroll records
• Track employee benefits, PTO, and related deductions

Medical and Behavioral Health Billing

• Submit billing through Electronic Health Records system
• Reconcile billings that are denied

Administrative & Recordkeeping

• Provide assistance on program and financial analytics
• Maintain organized and accurate financial files (digital and physical)
• Assist with donation/contribution recording and acknowledgment tracking
• Support other finance and administrative tasks as assigned

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector and medical billing experience is a plus
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online)
• Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $47,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
