Financial Accountant / Senior Finance Officer

Introduction

We are a growing telecommunications group operating both an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a Wholesale/FNO (Fibre Network Operator) business, serving end users, resellers, and wholesale ISP partners. As we scale, we are looking for a hands-on, meticulous Financial Accountant to take ownership of our full finance function.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership role, not a purely supervisory one. You will initially take over the full creditors function yourself — getting deep into our vendor and FNO cost base — with the goal of handing this over to a Junior Creditors Clerk (whom you will help recruit and train) once processes are running smoothly.

From there, your focus shifts to overseeing and continuously improving the finance function across both businesses. Your goal will be to maintain an airtight system of accounts up to Trial Balance, optimise cash management, and ensure full regulatory compliance with assistance from our auditing firm.

Key Responsibilities

Creditors (initially hands-on)

• Take full ownership of the creditors function: capturing, verifying, reconciling, and preparing supplier payments
• Reconcile FNO, vendor, and supplier invoices against active services and contracts, and query discrepancies
• Document creditors processes and, in time, hand the function over to a Junior Creditors Clerk whom you will train and supervise

Finance Function Oversight

• Oversee the full finance function of both the ISP and Wholesale/FNO businesses: debtors, creditors, billing, banking, reconciliations, and month-end close
• Oversee recurring billing runs (monthly recurring and once-off charges), debit orders, and revenue assurance — ensuring every active service is billed correctly
• Manage debtors and collections, including credit checks on new clients and escalation of overdue accounts
• Step in directly to execute operational Debtor or Creditor functions when workload surges demand it
• Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and reporting for the directors
• Prepare and upload weekly cash flow data to guide capital infrastructure deployment and operational liquidity
• Perform rigorous daily/weekly bank reconciliations and clear complex balance sheet reconciling items swiftly
• Maintain and improve internal controls, approval workflows, and finance documentation

Tax & Audit Liaison

• Work closely with our outsourced auditing firm on all tax and statutory obligations
• Compile accurate VAT reports, schedules, and supporting documentation for submissions
• Prepare year-end audit files and respond to auditor queries

Team & Process

• Recruit, train, and manage junior finance staff as the team grows
• Drive process improvement and ensure financial data across our systems is accurate, current, and reconciled
• Execute any other financial or administrative duties assigned by management to support business growth

Desired Experience & Qualification

• BCom in Accounting/Finance or equivalent qualification
• 3 to 5+ years' accounting experience, including at least at least 1–2 years specifically working within an ISP, FNO, or telecommunications company
• Strong creditors and reconciliation experience — you must be willing and able to be hands-on
• Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data cleaning) are essential for handling large transaction extracts
• Experience with accounting packages (e.g. Xero, Sage) required
• Experience in an ISP, telecoms, FNO, or subscription/recurring-billing environment is a strong advantage
• Experience with billing/CRM platforms (e.g. Splynx or similar) is an advantage
