Ujima Beauty is an emerging personal-care company committed to creating clean, affordable, and effective products that promote confidence, dignity, and healthier daily habits. Our first product is an aluminum-free deodorant designed for active individuals, underserved communities, and people living in warm climates in the United States and Africa.

Our mission goes beyond selling personal-care products. We use self-care and wellness education to help people strengthen their confidence, self-worth, and overall well-being.

Position Overview

Ujima Beauty is seeking an experienced and passionate beauty-industry professional to serve as a Founding Board Member. This person will work closely with the Founder to help build the company from the ground up and guide its long-term growth.

The ideal candidate has experience in beauty, skincare, personal care, cosmetics, consumer products, retail, product development, branding, marketing, manufacturing, or business growth. We are looking for someone who believes in Ujima Beauty’s mission and is willing to contribute their knowledge, relationships, and strategic guidance during the company’s early stages.

Key Responsibilities

The Founding Board Member will

• Help shape Ujima Beauty’s business and growth strategy.
• Advise the Founder on decisions related to products, branding, pricing, marketing, and sales.
• Help identify retail, wholesale, manufacturing, distribution, and partnership opportunities.
• Provide guidance on launching and growing a beauty or personal-care brand.
• Introduce the company to helpful industry professionals, investors, retailers, manufacturers, and community partners when appropriate.
• Review company goals, challenges, financial plans, and progress.
• Help Ujima Beauty prepare to scale in the United States and African markets.
• Support fundraising and investment-readiness efforts.
• Attend scheduled board and strategy meetings.
• Serve as an ambassador for Ujima Beauty and protect the company’s mission, values, and reputation.
• Provide honest, thoughtful, and responsible guidance to the Founder and leadership team.

Preferred Qualifications

We are interested in candidates with one or more of the following:

• Experience in beauty, skincare, cosmetics, wellness, personal care, or consumer-packaged goods.
• Experience launching, managing, or growing a product-based company.
• Knowledge of retail, wholesale, e-commerce, manufacturing, product development, marketing, or distribution.
• Relationships within the beauty, retail, investment, or consumer-product industries.
• Previous board, advisory, leadership, or startup experience.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking skills.
• An understanding of culturally responsive products and underserved markets.
• A genuine commitment to clean living, wellness, confidence, accessibility, and community impact.

Previous board experience is helpful but not required. We welcome qualified professionals who are ready to contribute their skills and grow alongside the company.

Time Commitment

The expected commitment is approximately five to eight hours per month, including:

• One monthly board or strategy meeting.
• Rev Ujimag important materials before meetings.
• Occasional calls, introductions, or project support.
• Additional participation during product launches, fundraising campaigns, or major company milestones.

Compensation and Equity Disclosure

This is an early-stage, equity-based position. Ujima Beauty is not offering a salary, hourly pay, stipend, or guaranteed cash compensation at this time.

The selected candidate may be offered a negotiated percentage of equity in Ujima Beauty in exchange for their ongoing service, expertise, and contributions. The amount, type, vesting schedule, responsibilities, performance expectations, and conditions of the equity award will be discussed before the candidate accepts the position.

No equity is guaranteed through this job description alone. Any equity arrangement will require company approval and a separate written agreement prepared or reviewed by a qualified attorney. Equity may vest over time and may be subject to continued service, company milestones, and other conditions.

As the company grows and secures consistent revenue or funding, the board may review the possibility of future financial compensation. However, future salary or payment is not guaranteed.
