The John William Pope Foundation is a family foundation based in Raleigh, North Carolina. It has awarded grants in North Carolina and beyond since 1986.

Job Description

The Office Manager and Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining the Foundation’s financial records and overseeing day-to-day office operations. The role includes managing bookkeeping in QuickBooks, preparing and reconciling monthly financial statements, processing payments (including ACH transfers), and supporting payroll and benefits administration.

Key responsibilities also include tracking the Foundation’s operating budget, maintaining organized financial records, and assisting external auditors with financial statements and tax return preparation. The Office Manager will additionally manage general operations of the Foundation’s leased office space.

The Office Manager and Bookkeeper will report to the President and work directly with external accounting support, payroll services, banking partners, and other third-party vendors and service providers.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in grantmaking, occasional special projects, and events.

Qualifications

• Bookkeeping and accounting skills to ensure accurate financial records, compliance with applicable regulations, and timely reporting. Experience with nonprofit bookkeeping would be welcome but not required. A CPA or someone possessing an accounting degree would be welcome but not required.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel (required).
• Prior experience with payroll and benefits administration.
• Prior experience with Salesforce and banking software (preferred).
• Familiarity with IRS Form 990 reporting and compliance (preferred).
• Excellent communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication and effective stakeholder engagement.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with close attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Employment Terms

• At least 30 hours a week preferred, but the Foundation will consider part-time, flex-time, or contract services.
• Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
