Law Firm Bookkeeper / IOLTA Accounting Specialist

Schuerger Law Group is seeking a highly qualified, detail-oriented Law Firm Bookkeeper / Accounting Specialist to support financial operations across a multi-entity legal organization.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in law firm operating and trust account reconciliation, hourly billing, and high-volume transaction processing across multiple entities and tax identification numbers. This role requires strong accounting controls, exceptional organization, and sound judgment in a fast-paced legal environment.

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Law Firm Bookkeeper / IOLTA (Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts) Accounting Specialist to join our team. In this vital role, you will manage the firm’s financial records, ensure compliance with IOLTA regulations, and support overall accounting functions.

Your expertise will help maintain accurate financial systems, streamline bookkeeping processes, and uphold the highest standards of financial integrity.

Duties

• Maintain and reconcile attorney operating and trust accounts (IOLTA) in accordance with legal, ethical, and accounting standards.
• Monitor trust activity, including receipts, disbursements, transfers, and client balances.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records supporting trust transactions.
• Perform general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations.
• Record, classify, and reconcile transactions across affiliated entities.
• Assist in preparation of periodic financial reports and supporting schedules.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Assist with audit, compliance, and tax-related reporting requirements.
• Process accounts payable and vendor payments.
• Process and reconcile high volumes of daily financial transactions accurately.
• Support accounting activity across multiple operating companies and tax entities.
• Research and resolve account discrepancies and reconciliation variances.
• Maintain strong internal controls and financial documentation standards.
• Provide accounting and administrative support to firm leadership, related departments, and outside accounting firms.
• Support process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and controls.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Demonstrated experience with law firm accounting and IOLTA trust account management.
• Experience processing and reconciling high-volume financial transactions.
• Experience managing accounting functions for multiple entities and tax identification numbers.
• Creditor’s rights and Personal Injury.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
• Experience using accounting and financial management software.
