We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter - Financial Lines who will be developing and expanding our Financial Lines portfolio for Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan segment, with focus on key product lines such as Directors & Officers (D&O), Professional Indemnity (PI), Financial Institutions (FI) and Cyber Insurance for tailoring solutions to meet the unique needs.

This role will support for underwriting operations and market development, contributing to the growth and profitability of the Financial Lines business. With a combination of technical expertise and strong relationship management skills, this would be critical role in delivering business while ensuring compliance with underwriting standards and market dynamics.

This position is ideal for a results-oriented professional with deep expertise in Financial Lines underwriting, and a passion for building high-performing portfolios in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment.

You will be expected to

• Work closely with Head of Financial Lines in growing Hong Kong P&L and supporting the development and execution of the Financial Lines strategy across Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan
• Support the management of the portfolio, monitoring performance metrics such as loss ratios, hit ratios, renewal retention rates, and identifying opportunities for optimization
• Underwrite Financial Lines products (D&O, PI, FI, and Cyber), balancing risk exposures, pricing, and coverage terms to align with underwriting philosophy and market dynamics.
• Ensure underwriting decisions adhere to company guidelines, risk appetite, and compliance standards
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, intermediaries, and clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention
• Monitor market trends, competitive landscapes, and regulatory changes to identify emerging opportunities and risks
• Collaborate with product development teams to design and enhance Financial Lines solutions
• Contribute to pricing frameworks and underwriting strategies that reflect the unique dynamics of the market
• Provide input that enhance products and processes in response to evolving client needs and market demands
• Work closely with internal stakeholders, including Distribution, Claims, Operations and Actuarial teams to ensure seamless service delivery and portfolio management
• Provide guidance and support to junior underwriters fostering professional growth and technical excellence
• Represent the Sompo brand within the Financial Lines market promoting the underwriting expertise and value proposition

The right fit person will have/be

• Min. 7 years of underwriting experience in Financial Lines, particularly in D&O, PI, FI, and Cyber insurance
• Proven track record of developing profitable portfolios within the Financial Lines segment
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, clients, and internal stakeholders
• Solid understanding of insurance market dynamics and financial lines underwriting principles
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills to inform underwriting decisions
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to provide clear direction during change
• High level of integrity and professionalism, ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
